From 2NE1 to BLACKPINK: YG Entertainment's New Girl Group "Baby Monster" Gains Anticipation

YG's current girl group BLACKPINK, comprised of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo, paved their way different to 2NE1 and rose as the current "the biggest girl group in the world."

BLACKPINK, which debuted in 2016, marks its sixth year this year (Korean age). In the meantime, The quartet has become one of the most popular girl groups in the world beyond Korea. The number of subscribers to YouTube's official channel is larger than the number of Koreans, and their music videos are based on "billion views."

Not only as a team, but also Jennie andRosé's solo activities are gaining global popularity, which is comparable to their group activities, and their status as a "Global No. 1 Girl Group."

Meanwhile, there is no doubt that 2NE1's influence remains huge, and their achievements in spearheading K-pop to the world are worthy of admiration.

Baby Monster will succeed these "big sisters." 2NE1 debuted in 2009, while BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 - and with this debut gap of seven years, K-pop enthusiasts predict that YGE's new girl group will slowly be revealed.

Further Details about YG Entertainment's 'Baby Monster' - Here's What We Know so Far

According to Star News, though there are still no official details about their group's final name and member lineup, it is expected that their concept will be different from YGE's rooks, TREASURE.

In particular, YG Entertainment is known for its "swag" and "boy crush/girl crush" vibes.

While most of the existing groups are dance/performance-based groups including BLACKPINK, BIGBANG, WINNER, iKON, and TREASURE, this new girl group is said to be a group that will give highlights to their musical aspect.

Based on insiders from YG Entertainment, Baby Monster will radiate a "Big Mama" style group.

In context, Big Mama is a female R&B group launched by YG Entertainment in 2003 and is a group that captivated the public by completing harmony through a completely different tone-based on the soul.

Baby Monster is also expected to form a group of candidates who are good at soul singing and advocate the so-called "skilled female girl group."

If Big Mama competed with singing and vocals, Baby Monster will add an indispensable element to the girl group's visual as well as singing and vocals, adding another success story to the YGE girl group's success story that leads to 2NE1-BLACKPINK.

YGE said the name Baby Monster has not been decided, but the agency has already registered a trademark with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, including the name of Baby Monster's state language, and the abbreviated "Bemon" state letter. Like the paradoxical name, YG Entertainment already raises expectations for the new girl group to appear in the world.
