Singer-songwriter Motte returns with a refreshing and timely song titled "산책 (Walk)," released March 26, at exactly noon in Korea.
The song was released with a music video available on the Stone Music Entertainment YouTube channel, featuring Motte in various outdoor locations and seemingly enjoying the cool air of spring. She sings her latest track while appearing in different city backdrops - either sitting leisurely, taking photographs, or as the song suggests, taking a walk. Her music video ends with a scene showing her dog, Bongbong, running from across a field towards her.
As Fresh and as Welcome as Spring
"Various smells flock between the sky and the ground. Whatever it is, you won't know what's good for you to keep and see," the caption for the "Walk" MV read. "Maybe that's why I'm looking forward to spring more than chaotic and gloomy days."
Motte additionally shares: "The dream of living in a house with a large yard came from you. You are where I have to go back and where I want to stay for the rest of my life. In the changing seasons and landscapes, we will be together forever."
"Walk" is a relaxing song, with minimal snaps and guitar strums comprising much of the rhythm. This acoustic style is a refreshing throwback to her early musical style that mostly touches on the "Lo-Fi" sound popular among today's youth.
With her unique vocals, Motte singing feels like a friend welcoming listeners after a long and tiring day. "How are you today?" she asks in English, continuing in Korean: "What are you doing?/ I want to know everything about you/ Turn on the light/ Sit next to me."
The song is both sweet and hopeful, with lyrics such as "Over time/ I'm not disappearing/ So don't you worry bout a thing" in a mix of English and Korean. Her warm and reassuring lyrics feels carefully crafted, giving off a sense of intimacy even in what appears to be everyday scenarios.
Motte: Staying Connected Through the Pandemic
"Walk" is the latest release from the Korean singer-songwriter, who has remained active in giving fans new songs, from her singles "Time Lag," "Rocket," and "Airplane Mode," to her participation in the Jang Deok Tribute Project early this year. Motte has also sung "One Span" as a part of the OST for the Ji Chang Wook-led K-drama "Lovestruck in the City."
Music journalist Kim Sung-hwan recognized the public and critical attention that Motte has been receiving lately, crediting it to her undeniably "sophisticated melodies and rhythmic sensations that break the boundaries of pop and rock and R&B," as well as her intimate releases that touch on the worries and sensibilities of today's youth.
Aside from her continued releases of songs, Motte always tries to keep in touch with her fans with her video content and live performances, following the restrictions on travel and in-person.
