Is SHINee's '1of1' Copied by Roomer's '242 (Shine)'? Plagiarism Allegation Arises Due to Striking Similarities

On the credits part, a featured artist named "OHNEW" also captured attention. A Korean artist under the name 'Roomer' is under fire for allegedly plagiarizing SHINee's "1of1."

On April 5, allegations of plagiarism between the new track of Roomer titled "242 (Shine)" featuring Lody and Oul and SHINee's "1 of 1" are being raised.

Amidst the issue, the accused team also released their statement against the allegations.

Roomer's "242 (Shine)" Plagiarized SHINee "1 of1? Here are the Evidences, According to Netizens

In particular, the speculations arise when Korean online communities have continued to criticize the song "242 (Shine)" released under the name of "Roomer."

The reason why the song, which was released on March 21, is causing netizens to raise their eyebrows is due to its uncanny resemblance to the 13-year-old K-pop icon SHINee song "1 of 1" released in 2016.

In fact, when the two songs were played at the same time, the melody and beat matched with each other. According to K-pop enthusiasts, you don't have to listen closely to know the similarities, as from the start, you'll have a hard time identifying which is which.

The more problematic part was the explanation of the songs on the music site. "1 of 1," said "This title song "1 of 1" is a New Jack swing genre song from the 90s and features a sophisticated expression of retro sensibility with funky rhythm and soft R&B melody in SHINee's own color."

Surprisingly, "242 (Shine)" contained the same sentence. There was a slight difference in the back part, but suspicions were deepened by the very same song explanation.

Furthermore, though, normally, several K-pop artists have the same names and song titles, the words "Shine" "In My Room" are all connected to SHINee, not to mention a featuring artist who coincidentally has the same name with SHINee's Onew, but in a different spelling (OHNEW).

Roomer's Side Denied the Claims of Plagiarizing SHINee

Following the keen-eyed fans and netizens' speculations, a concerned netizen directly contacted the artist's team, but Roomer's side firmly denied the allegations.

They said, "There is a similarity between the rhythm and sound of the introduction, but the unique creativity of the song will be recognized for the code and melody that goes on throughout the song. We have confirmed that there are no copyright issues. We will make sure that we can deal with them as soon as we find any other issues."

Nevertheless, K-pop fans, particularly Shawols (fandom of SHINee), are also firmly believing that it is indeed plagiarized to whoever listens to it.

Netizens are also saying, "No, it's exactly the same level, it's not plagiarism?" "It's almost copied," "Ctrl C+V?" and many more.

On the other hand, SHINee, who is a contemporary group known for always challenging various genres and concepts, will be having a speedy comeback with "Atlantis" on April 12. This will be a follow-up after their major release in three years, "Don't Call Me," in February.
