BLACKPINK, TWICE, and More: These are the K-Pop Girl Group Albums with over 1 Billion Digital Points on Gaon

The Gaon Chart is one of the most reliable ways to see how popular albums are in South Korea. An album earns points over time through streams, downloads, and other ways an album is used.

Since its inception in 2010, only five albums by K-pop girl groups have surpassed one billion digital points on Gaon.

BLACKPINK Has Two Albums With Over 1 Billion Digital Points on Gaon

BLACKPINK has not one but two albums with over one billion digital points on Gaon. The first album to do so is their first Korean-language mini-album, "SQUARE UP," which was released on Jun. 15, 2018.

Upon its release, "SQUARE UP" debuted at number one on the Gaon Albums Chart. The mini-album sold almost 179,000 copies within the first day of its release in South Korea.

"DDU-DU DDU-DU," the title track of "SQUARE UP," debuted at number three on the Gaon Digital Chart and at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart upon its release. The following week, the song peaked at number one on the Gaon Digital, Download, Streaming, and Mobile Charts.

Their second album to amass over one billion digital points on Gaon is their first full-length studio album, "THE ALBUM," which was released on Oct. 2, 2020. "THE ALBUM" debuted at number two on the Gaon Monthly Chart, selling over one million albums within the first month of its release.

On Dec. 10, it was announced that "THE ALBUM" received an official million certification from the Gaon Chart after selling over a million copies in South Korea. "THE ALBUM" is the best-selling girl group album in South Korean history, a record previously held by The Pearl Sisters for "My Dear" since 1968.

TWICE Has One Album With Over 1 Billion Digital Points on Gaon

TWICE, another girl group from one of the Big 3 companies (JYP Entertainment), also has an album with over a billion digital points! Which album, you ask? It is their Jul. 9, 2018 mini-album, "Summer Nights," an expanded reissue of their previous release, "What Is Love?"

Upon its release, "Summer Nights" peaked at number one on the Gaon Weekly Charts. By the end of 2018, the mini-album ranked at number 16 in Gaon's Year-End Charts. "Dance The Night Away," the title track of "Summer Nights," debuted at the top of the Gaon Digital Chart. The song earned the group their first-ever Platinum certification from the Gaon Music Chart for surpassing 100 million streams.
