MAMAMOO Hwasa Receives First Platinum Certification From Gaon Chart With 'Maria'

MAMAMOO has earned her first platinum certification with her solo track "Maria"! This becomes her second release overall to attain the milestone.

MAMAMOO Hwasa's "Maria" Achieves Platinum Certification from Gaon Chart

On May 6, Gaon Chart officially announced the songs and albums that have obtained certifications for reaching certain streams and sales.

According to Gaon Chart, "Maria" by MAMAMOO Hwasa has exceeded 100 million cumulative streams, and therefore has received the platinum certification. This is the first time that the K-pop female solo artist achieved this feat with her solo track.

Additionally, this is her second overall song to be certified platinum. Hwasa's collaboration hit with Loco, titled "Don't," also received the same recognition back in 2019.

MAMAMOO Hwasa's "Maria" has also entered the latest weekly Gaon Streaming Chart for the week of April 25 to May 1. The song is currently at No. 91. As for the Gaon Weekly Digital Chart for the same week, "Maria" claimed the No. 96 spot with 5,025,028 points. It now has a total of 675,283,129 digital points on Gaon Chart. Congratulations to MAMAMOO Hwasa!

Hwasa's "Maria" Becomes Fastest MAMAMOO Music Video to Hit 200 Million Views

In other news, the music video for Hwasa's "Maria" has also achieved a new milestone on YouTube. As of May 5, the MV has exceeded 200 million views, becoming the fastest MAMAMOO MV to reach the mark. Released on June 29, 2020, the music video took 310 days to surpass 200 million views.

The music video for "Maria" has now beaten the record held by MAMAMOO's "HIP," which took 380 days to achieve the feat. On top of this, "Maria" becomes Hwasa's first MV to hit the 200-million mark. "Maria" also holds the title of being the first solo music video of MAMAMOO Hwasa to reach 100 million views on YouTube. It took around four months and 17 days to attain it.

MAMAMOO Hwasa's Previous Achievements with "Maria"

"Maria" is the title track from MAMAMOO Hwasa's first solo extended play, also titled "Maria," which was released on June 25 last year. The K-pop female solo artist took part in composing and writing the lyrics for the song. The EP is her second release following her solo debut single "Twit," which was launched in February 2019.

Following its release, Hwasa's "Maria" ranked first on QQ Music, China's largest music platform. It also took first place on Shazam Sound Source Comprehensive Chart, a global sound source search service.

And thanks to "Maria," the MAMAMOO member successfully took home three awards at various ceremonies. She won the "Song of the Year" at Asian Pop Music Awards, "Best Dance Performance - Solo" at 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, and "Best Digital Song (Bonsang)" at the 2021 Golden Disc Awards.

Moreover, Hwasa took home five music show trophies with "Maria," the most among her releases. The solo track was even included in multiple lists of best 2020 K-pop songs by critics and publications, including the Billboard, Rolling Stone India, Time, and more.
