Singer-songwriter Woo Yerin, who first charmed audiences with her vocals in the "K-Pop Star Season 5" back in 2015, releases her new single "Lonely Flower."
Woo Yerin managed to leave a strong impression on the Korean audiences as she finished sixth on the SBS reality competition show. She then temporarily stopped her activities to study in Japan. Woo Yerin returned in 2018 to release the songs "Please Hug Me" and "Fishbowl," confirming her return to the public.
With her new song, "Lonely Flower," Woo Yerin bares a part of herself in her new ballad - characterized by its soulful melody and poetic lyrics that offer a multilayered experience to anyone listening. Its soothing rhythm, obviously oriental in nature, is a familiar feel to anyone who has listened to Woo Yerin before.
The new single was also accompanied by a music video, uploaded on the Stone Music Entertainment YouTube channel on May 12. The video features Woo Yerin in a serene room filled with white curtains and a couple of roses on a table beside her. Staring off into the distance, the Korean singer-songwriter flawlessly vocalizes, creating a modern oriental feel. The following day, May 13, a minimalist lyric video was released - featuring every line in traditional-looking blocks against a background containing only a bowl of water.
Additionally, "Lonely Flower" is inspired by the 2015 movie of the same name starring Han Hyo-Joo, Chun Woo-Hee, and Yoo Yeon-Seok. The title of the film refers to a "flower that understands words," describing a gisaeng, or a courtesan. Set in the 1940s, Woo Yerin captures the same musical aesthetic of Korea at the time. Furthermore, to better capture the authentic oriental feel of the track, Hanumpa frontman Lee Jeong-Hoon lent his skills in playing the traditional madugeum (morin khuur).
