SM Entertainment Takes Legal Action Against False Rumors and Insults Regarding EXO Chanyeol's Private Life

On May 17, KST, EXO Chanyeol's label, SM Entertainment, revealed to Newsen that they are suing those who have spread false rumors and insults regarding Chanyeol's private life. According to SM Entertainment, the police identified the accused, and was sent to prosecution with recommendation.

The label added that one of their complaints against the accused is an infringement of artist rights, which SM Entertainment is constantly responding to and taking legal action against.

Back in October 2020, Chanyeol was embroiled in a controversy regarding his private life and relationship. On October 29, a netizen shared a lengthy post in an online community forum, where they claimed to have been Chanyeol's ex-girlfriend and was in a relationship with the EXO member for more than three years.

According to the netizen, Chanyeol had cheated on her more than ten times during the span of their relationship with other female idols, friends, flight attendants, and more. In addition, she had also accused Chanyeol of backstabbing his fellow EXO member after they he had flirted with her.

The netizen added that the EXO member flirted with her without knowing she was actually dating Chanyeol. Chanyeol then proceeded to curse behind the member's back. The netizen also claimed that because Chanyeol was cheating on her, he was not confident enough to defend her.

Chanyeol initially denied the claims, however, he later admitted to cheating.

Following the controversy, Chanyeol took a hiatus. On February 24, 2021, Chanyeol returned with several posts on his social media account after four months. However, his return received several backlash from netizens, who had accused Chanyeol of being shameless and that many of them cannot look at the singer the same way again.

Chanyeol Enlists for His Mandatory Military Service

On March 29, KST, Chanyeol bids farewell to fans as he officially enlisted for his mandatory military service as an active duty soldier. SM Entertainment did not disclose which division the "Don't Mess Up My Tempo" singer will be assigned, nor was the location of his enlistment revealed.

Chanyeol is the fifth member of EXO to enlist, following D.O., Xiumin, Suho, and Chen, and is estimated to be discharged sometime in September 2022, after 18 months of service.

After Chanyeol's enlistment, his fellow EXO member, Baekhyun, also enlisted on his birthday, May 6, KST. Making him the sixth member to enlist. As of now, the remaining members who have yet to serve their mandatory military enlistment are Sehun and Kai.
