BLACKPINK Rosé's Parents Did Not Want Her To Be a Singer + How Rosé Changed Their Minds

On May 15, Rosé shared a video titled "Thank you for loving -R-" on her YouTube channel, ROSé Official. The video shows how hard Rosé worked on her debut single album, providing BLINKs an inside look into the inner workings of the album.

In one part of the video, Rosé is seen having dinner with her family after working tirelessly on the album.

The female idol is seen chowing down on food — and even asking for more rice — Rosé's mom asks if she remembers something.

When asked what, her mom replied, "How we were all against it when she said she wanted to become a singer?"

Rosé could not help but let out a shy smile at her mom's words.

She then reveals to fans that she actually did not want to become a singer at first. Rosé's mom then revealed that one day, out of the blue, she told her family that she was going to become a singer.

Rosé's dad is then heard piping in. He reveals that Rosé did not just tell her family. Instead, Rosé brought three of her friends, and the four of them soon started making dance moves. Oddly enough, Rosé ended up in a K-pop girl group with four members! Is it a coincidence or fate?

Following this instance, Rosé's family thought it would be great if she tried out for an audition, even just one, as Rosé said it was her dream to become a singer. "But we had absolutely no expectations," her dad added. He stated that even if Rosé had failed her audition, at least she would have the audition in her memories.

Rosé recalled that when she went to her school camps back in Australia, they would often have talent shows to earn points for their house. Rosé could not help but laugh as she recalled how she pretended to be sexy during her talent shows, even shooting winks at her teachers! She remembered having so much fun making people laugh at the time.

How Did Rosé Join YG Entertainment and BLACKPINK?

In 2015, Rosé was encouraged by her father to audition for YG Entertainment after hearing they were holding global auditions in Sydney, Australia. Though hesitant, she participated in the auditions and ranked first out of 700 participants. Rosé revealed that she had always been a big fan of the company, thanks to their cool groups.

Within two months, Rosé had dropped out of school and signed with YG Entertainment as a trainee. She then moved to Seoul, South Korea, to be a trainee. Rosé confessed that when her father first brought the audition to her attention, she thought it was a joke due to the distance and difficulties of becoming a singer abroad. The "On The Ground:" singer once stated that she did not think there was much chance for her to be a singer.

As a trainee, she featured in labelmate G-Dragon's song "Without You," but her name was not credited until she was revealed as a BLACKPINK member. "Without You" peaked at number ten on the Gaon Music Chart.

Rosé trained under YG Entertainment for four years before it was announced she was a member of BLACKPINK in Jun. 2015. She was the last member to be revealed.
