BTS Butter, Dynamite are the Most Downloaded Songs in the United States for the First Half of 2021
On July 13, MRC Data released a report that highlights figures and trends in music for the first half of 2021.
The report shows data concerning album sales (CD, LP, cassette tape, etc.) in the United States, as well as digital downloads and audio streamings. Data is collected from January 1 to July 1 of this year.

According to the report, BTS took both first and second place in the "Top Digital Song Sales" chart. "Butter," which was released in May of this year, recorded a total of 841,000 digital downloads.
On the other hand, "Dynamite," which was released in August of last year, ranked second with 283,000 downloads.
Meanwhile, "BE," the album released by BTS in November last year, ranked eighth on the "Top Albums Chart," selling 128,000 copies. This chart includes both physical and digital album sales. For the "Top Physical Album" chart, "BE" ranked sixth with 125,000 copies sold.

BTS's fourth studio album, "Map of the Soul: 7," which was released in February last year, ranked 10th on the "Top Physical Albums Chart," reportedly selling 105,000 copies in the first half of 2021.

BTS Recent Activities
On July 9, 2021, BTS released their third English-language single, "Permission to Dance." The dance-pop song is described as a track that will make your heart bounce to the rhythm of BTS's positive energy.
Prior to the release of "Permission to Dance," Ed Sheeran revealed on "Most Requested Live" that he wrote a song for BTS. This proved to be true after HYBE Labels revealed the tracklist for the CD release of "Butter," where they named "Permission to Dance" as the song's title. Ed Sheeran wrote the song alongside Johnny McDaid, Steve Mac, and Jenna Andrews.
"Permission to Dance" ranked at the top of Japan's Oricon Digital Singles. In addition, on Billboard Japan's Hot 100, "Permission to Dance" ranked at number two.
On May 21, BTS dropped their second English-language single, "Butter." The music video for the said song broke the record for the biggest YouTube premiere of all time, amassing 3.9 million peak concurrent viewers. "Butter" also broke the record for the most-viewed YouTube video within the first 23 hours, garnering 108.2 million views.
"Butter" debuted at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100, making it BTS's fourth number-one hit in the United States. They are the quickest act to achieve this, doing so in four months, breaking Justin Timberlake's decade-and-a-half ago record. They are also the fastest group to do so since The Jackson 5 in 1970.
On June 28, "Butter" became the longest-running #1 debut in Hot 100 history, breaking Aerosmith's 23-year record with "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing."
