7 K-Pop Groups That Almost Disbanded

There is a multitude of reasons as to why a K-Pop group disbands, from contract expirations, being inactive, to internal conflict. While some weren't able to avoid disbandment, some thankfully did.

With that being said, these K-Pop groups almost disbanded at some point in their career.

Yes, you read that right! International superstars BTS almost disbanded at one point. During an award acceptance speech at the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards, Jin revealed that they had thought of disbanding earlier in the year due to the difficulties each member was facing. Suga also revealed that it was caused by the pressure and "what-ifs" they had in their career.

It is widely known among K-Pop fans that EXID was on the brink of disbandment. However, a fancam of Hani during a live performance of their song, "Up & Down," went viral and garnered massive attention. Because of Hani's fancam, the group also received attention and saved them from having to disband.

3. T-ARA

T-ARA had one of the biggest scandals in the K-Pop industry. For more than five years, the group was labeled as a bully after former member Hwayoung left cryptic messages that alleged she was being bullied. Netizens soon turned against T-ARA. It wasn't until 2017 when former staff members came forward and revealed that Hwayoung and her twin sister, Hyoyoung, had lied and even made threats to T-ARA member Areum.

BIGBANG almost disbanded at one point, too, after the group becomes embroiled in a series of scandals. Back in 2011, Daesung had a car accident where a motorcycle driver had died. Daesung took time off from the entertainment industry after being cleared of charges. In the same year, G-Dragon tested positive for having consumed marijuana in a drug test.

Seungri was also involved in a scandal with a Japanese woman after a photo of him in bed while shirtless circulated. T.O.P was also involved in a marijuana scandal which ended with him being on two years on probation, with 10 months in prison if the probation was violated. The constant scandals eventually led people to wonder what would happen to the group.

NU'EST almost disbanded. But before that happened, majority of the members had participated in the season two of Mnet's "Produce 101" as contestants. With the members of NU'EST joining the show, the group was able to garner attention and gain more following. With the new amount of fans supporting the group, NU'EST decided not to disband.

Several of the members had experienced accidents, such as Heechul, Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk, Shindong, and Leeteuk being in a car accident, and Kyuhyun being told he only had a 20 percent chance of survival, and if he did live, he was not expected to be able to sing again. In 2009, Heechul revealed that he felt he was not useful to the group and seriously considered leaving. However, Eunhyuk was able to persuade him to stay.

Later on in the years, Kibum took a hiatus to focus on acting; Kangin was investigated for his first DUI accident; Han Geng filed a lawsuit against Super Junior's label, SM Entertainment; Sungmin couldn't promote with the group due to his marriage; and Siwon was involved in a controversy after his dog, Bugsy, bit a neighbor who passed away.

Just like NU'EST, VICTON was also saved from disbandment after appearing on the fourth season, "Produce 101." Prior to some of the members of the group joining the "Produce X 101," the group was not relatively popular and had considered disbanding. But thanks to members Byungchan and Seungwoo, who joined the show, VICTON was able to garner attention and continue promoting.
