Billboard Predicts BTS as Contender for a "Big Four" Nomination at the 2022 Grammy Awards

On July 16 local time, Billboard released a list of artists who they believe are contenders for a nomination at one of the "Big Four" awards at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The "Big Four" awards at the world-renowned awards show are Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

And Billboard's Paul Grein has predicted that BTS will be in this year's nominations for Record of the Year, alongside Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, and more.

Last year, fans and music critics were disappointed that BTS' first English song, "Dynamite," did not get nominated for Record of the Year, considering the records it broke - although the song did get nominated for Best Pop Dup/Group Performance.

However, this year, "Butter" is predicted to snag a nomination for Record of the Year, with the song doing better on the charts than "Dynamite" did. Paul Grein also predicted that "Butter" can get nominated for Song of the Year, although the chances of that are slimmer as compared to Record of the Year.

In addition, Billboard had mentioned the fact that The Recording Academy had made a change in their rules back in April, which can give BTS leverage in winning their first Grammy award this year.

According to Billboard, The Recording Academy will be disbanding the nominations review committees, which means that for the first time in 27 years, the voting members will be the one who has a final say on who is nominated in the "Big Four" categories.

In fact, the BTS members were offered a position as voting members in 2019, while HYBE's founder and chairman, Bang Si Hyuk, was invited to join The Recording Academy as a professional member.

Although there are over 12,000 voting members in The Recording Academy, the chances of BTS receiving a "Big Four" nomination is higher this year.

Billboard Selects BTS as Most Likely to Break Records at the 2022 Grammy Awards

Besides predicting a "Big Four" nomination, Billboard's Paul Grein also selected BTS as one of the six artists who are most likely to break records at this year's Grammy Awards.

In the previous year, BTS became the first K-Pop act to be nominated in any category in the Grammy Awards, thanks to their song "Dynamite" having received a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group.

And this year, with the prediction of BTS being nominated in the Record of the Year category, BTS could become the first K-Pop act to receive the nomination - moreso if they win the award.
