Did Mnet Evil Edit "Girls Planet 999" Contestant Kim Chaehyun?

On August 6, 2021, Mnet aired the first episode of their latest reality competition show, "Girls Planet 999." Former SM Entertainment trainees Kim Chaehyun and Ahn Jeongmin caught attention on the show, as they were trainees while aespa's line-up was being formed but left the label before a possible debut.

On the show, Kim Chaehyun, Ahn Jeongmin, Lee Yunji performed aespa's debut song, "Black Mamba." The song is not easy to perform, as it requires a wide vocal range to conquer the high notes and precision and balance to pull off the choreography.

Originally from SM Entertainment, Kim Chaehyun posses excellent skills and was praised for her dance vocals. However, she still appeared to struggle with the song and experienced a voice crack while singing Ningning's high note during the bridge.

In the previous parts of the song, Kim Chaehyun performed very well and appeared confident, but soon lost her confidence after experiencing her voice crack.

Mnet replayed the trainee's voice crack, putting emphasis on her mistake. Unfortunately, this led many to believe that the trainee's voice crack was highly noticeable.

However, when Mnet released the full version of their performance to YouTube on August 7, many believed Mnet intentionally emphasized her voice crack to evil edit her.

In the uncut version, Chaehyun is seen singing the high part again. While her voice becomes shaky while reaching the high note, she ultimately is able to hit it smoothly, handling the situation well.

Many believe Mnet is trying to stir up drama once more by editing and focusing on Chaehyun's voice crack. In addition, people are stating that Mnet distorted her high nose, making it sound like she was out of tune for that whole segment of the song.

That, paired with the fact that they rewinded her voice crack twice, turned up the volume, and zoomed in on the idol's worried expression and the displeased faces of the judges, made it appear as if she had performed poorly.

People are sympathizing with Kim Chaehyun, saying she has become a victim of Mnet's evil editing.
