B.I Sentenced to 4 Years Probation and Fines for Drug Charges

The court has given B.I's sentence following his hearing for violating the Narcotics Control Act.

B.I Sentenced to 4 Years Probation and Fines for Drug Charges

On the afternoon of September 10 KST, the Criminal Settlement of the Seoul Central District Court, which is presided by Chief Judge Kwon Sung Soo, held the sentence hearing for former iKON member, B.I (real name Kim Hanbin), who was charged for violating the Narcotics Control Act.

According to the Seoul Central District Court, B.I is sentenced to a probationary period of four years. If B.I was to commit any additional drug-related crimes during his probationary period, the court will have the right to sentence him to three years in prison.

In addition to his probation, the court also sentenced B.I to pay a fine of 1.5 million won (around $1,200 USD), have 80 hours of community service, and must attend a total of 40 hours of drug education.

The District Court said during the hearing, "Drug-related crimes have a high risk of recidivism and can leave a large negative effect on society as a whole."

They continued, "However, the defendant acknowledges all the charges and is reflecting on their mistakes, and is a first-time offender. The parents of the defendant have also spoken before the court about their strong commitment to educating their child properly. In addition, the fact that the defendant has maintained good social ties with his family, the people around them, and as a member of society are taken into account and works in his favor."

Following the District Court's ruling, B.I gave a statement to the reporters who met him outside of the court.

"I will look back at this incident and continue to reflect in the future. I want to live my life trying to become a person who can be forgiven, especially to those who have been hurt because of me. Once again, I sincerely apologize to many people," said B.I.

B.I Admits to Drug Charges

Meanwhile, B.I was investigated and brought to trial on the charges of purchasing and using marijuana and LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) back in 2016. According to the prosecution, B.I had smoked marijuana a total of three times and purchased eight LSD tablets.

In B.I's trial held on August 27, the prosecution had requested for a three-year prison sentence and a fine of 1.5 million won (around $1,200 USD) for the idol.

According to the prosecution, "As celebrities are loved by the public, the accused has made a huge profit in the entertainment industry for about three years."

B.I had also admitted to all of the charges brought against him and applied for leniency by submitting a letter of apology prior to his first trial hearing. B.I's father was also in attendance at the court.
