MelOn Music Awards 2021 Date and Details including Online Channels
On Oct. 21, Kakao Entertainment's music platform MelOn announced that they will be hosting their annual MelOn Music Awards in early December.
Since 2005, MelOn has been honoring artists each year based on votes, experts' votes, user data, and more. The awards ceremony began to be held both offline and online every year from 2009 until 2019.
In 2020, the event was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like last year, the MelOn Music Awards 2021 (hereafter MMA 2021) will take place online to also prevent the spread of the virus.

MMA 2021 will be broadcast live on different online channels, including MelOn, KakaoTV, and 1theK's YouTube channel for free.
Kakao Entertainment's Lee Je Wook, who heads MelOn, encourages artists, music fans, industry officials, and anyone who loves K-pop to participate in and enjoy the awards ceremony together.
MMA 2021 is scheduled to be held on Dec. 4, starting from 6 p.m. KST. A teaser video of the event will be unveiled on Nov. 3.

About MelOn Music Awards + Top 3 Artists with the Most Awards
Organized by Kakao Entertainment, MelOn Music Awards is one of the well-known music awards shows that takes place in South Korea. The event was first held online for three years, from 2005 to 2008. It was later held offline beginning from 2009.
MMA has been held in different venues across South Korea, such as the Olympic Hall, Hall of Peace, Olympic Gymnastics Arena, and Gocheok SkyDome.

MelOn Music Awards gives different awards to artists, including the grand prizes: "Artist of the Year," "Album of the Year," "Song of the Year," and "Record of the Year."
Additionally, there are two main prizes like "Top 10 Artist Award" and "New Artist of the Year Award," as well as genre awards like "Best Rap/Hip Hop," "Best Ballad," "Best R&B" and more. Various Popularity awards and special awards are also given to artists.
From 2005 to 2020, the artist that has taken home the most awards is BTS. The Big Hit boy group has won a total of 29 prizes to date. They are the only artist to earn more than 20 awards at MelOn Music Awards in history.

Moreover, BTS has taken home the most Grand Prize, having a total of 11 Daesangs so far.
The artist with the second most wins is EXO with 17 awards. EXO and BTS are the only ones to have more than 15 prizes at MMA. Also, the SM boy group is the artist with the second most Grand Prize (4).
And, the artist with the third most awards is female soloist IU, who has won 13 times already. She is one of the only two soloists with at least five prizes, the other one being PSY.
