BTS and Fan Accounts Get Attacked by Fake Copyright Claims from 'Team Copyright'

For the past week, numerous tweets, profile pictures and headers are being removed from BTS' official and fan accounts on Twitter, with the reason for their removal being fake copyright claims made by malicious attackers. BTS fans, ARMY, trended the hashtag "#TwitterMaliciousDMCA" as a result.

According to fans, major fan accounts of BTS with followers ranging from 200,000 to over two million have had their content on Twitter be removed by copyright trolls in the past few days.

Based on reports shared by the victimized accounts, those attacking them have created a spoof website where they upload fan accounts' content (such as an image), and then submit a copyright claim to Twitter that the image used was their own.

This resulted in numerous accounts having their pictures removed and replaced with "in response to a report from the copyright holder."

Some major accounts who were attacked are @charts_k, @btsvotingorg, @BTS_Trans, and @bts_worIdwide, among many others. While some have recovered their content, many are still under review for the fake claims.

BTS Fans Call Out Twitter for Fake Copyright Claim Attacks

Many are working to minimize the damage caused by the attacks, such as opening a backup account and temporarily replacing their headers and profile pictures.

According to ARMY, the attackers are said to be a group of people from Bangladesh, collectively calling themselves "Team Copyright."

On Team Copyright's Facebook account, they describe themselves as a non-profit organization that "work for a clean cyber space." They have also shared numerous screenshots that show they are responsible for taking down several content for copyright claims.

As of the moment, fans are working to report Team Copyright's Facebook page, bringing the matter to Twitter's Safety and Support, and even trying to inform Bangladesh's State-Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Fans have also called out Twitter for the dangerous loophole in their DMCA request process.
