BTS Earns Second Career Nomination at the 2022 Grammy Awards
On November 23 local time, the Recording Academy announced the nominees for the upcoming 2022 Grammy Awards, with global superstars BTS earning their second consecutive nomination at the esteemed awards ceremony for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Butter."
Other contenders for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance are Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's "I Get A Kick Out Of You," Justin Bieber and benny blanco's "Lonely," Coldplay's "Higher Power," and Doja Cat Featuring SZA's "Kiss Me More."
Upon the release of "Butter" back in May, the song went on to make history and break numerous records, such as snagging the top spot on Billboard's weekly chart of the popular songs in the United States, Hot 100, for a staggering 10 weeks. "Butter" also broke the record for biggest song debut in Spotify history on their global chart.
With the amazing success of "Butter" both domestic and international, many had anticipated that the song could possibly be in the running for at least one of the major awards at the Grammy Awards, such as Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Record of the Year.
In particular, Billboard even predicted that "Butter" could be a big contender for Record of the Year given the song's position on Billboard charts.

Foreign Media Outlets Confused Over BTS Only Having One Grammy Nomination
Hence, BTS' single nomination this year have left numerous people in question, with foreign media outlets expressing their confusion over the Grammy Awards' decision.
Regarding the nominations announced by the Recording Academy, the Associated Press stated, "Some major singles that topped both social media and music charts in the Record of the Year and Song of the Year were excluded. What is even more surprising is that BTS' 'Butter' was rejected."
"Korean group's BTS' 'Butter' was a mega hit this summer, but the Grammys only put BTS in one nomination," Associated Press added.
Los Angeles Times also questioned BTS' exclusion, even citing their Billboard success. "Even after releasing three No. 1 singles this year, global pop sensation BTS received only one nomination for the 2022 Grammy Awards."
"BTS was excluded from the coveted record and song of the year categories, even though "Butter" spent a whopping 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart," they continued.

As for dpa International, they pointed out that other artists alongside BTS such as Megan Thee Stallion and Drake were excluded from Album of the Year. While USA Today also mentioned Miley Cyrus and Drake being some of the chart-topping artists joining BTS in being rejected from major nominations.
"[Butter is] the song of summer that broke a record on Spotify's global chart for biggest song debut in the platform's history. So only one nod for best pop duo/group performance? The BTS Army would like a word," USA Today said.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, BTS was also nominated for the first time in the same category for their 2020 hit single "Dynamite," during the 2021 Grammy Awards.
