In this year's Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), EXO Baekhyun was announced as the winner in the "Best Male Artist" category. He has now made history as the first idol to take home the said award multiple times in the history of the awards show.

On Dec. 11, CJ E&M held its annual MAMA which is considered one of the biggest awards ceremonies in the K-pop industry. This awards show recognizes Asian artists in different categories including the Best Male Artist.
The nominees for the "Best Male Artist" at the 2021 MAMA were Kang Daniel, Lee Mu Jin, and EXO members D.O., Kai and Baekhyun. Among them, Baekhyun eventually took the win.

This is the third consecutive year that EXO Baekhyun won the said award. He first received recognition in 2019 and then in 2020. With this, the "Bambi" singer has become the first artist in history to win the said award three years in a row in MAMA history.
On top of that, Baekhyun is now the artist with the most "Best Male Artist" awards, having three trophies as of 2021.
On the same night as the 2021 MAMA was held, EXO member Baekhyun surprised fans when he posted a message on his personal Twitter account to thank the fans for the award.
In his tweet, the "Candy" singer said, "Thank you, my ERI, thank you very much! ERIs are the only people who make me happy. Thank you for making me a happy person."

In the comments, fans congratulated EXO Baekhyun and also expressed how much they miss him as the 29-year-old K-pop idol is currently serving in the military.

EXO Baekhyun's Solo Activities Before Military Enlistment
On May 6 this year, Baekhyun became the sixth EXO member to enlist in the military after Xiumin, D.O., Chen, Suho and Chanyeol.
Prior to his enlistment, he made a solo comeback in March with his third EP "Bambi," which features the title song of the same name. The album recorded more than 833,000 stock pre-orders, beating his previous album "Delight" as the most pre-ordered album by a soloist in South Korea.
After its release, EXO Baekhyun's "Bambi" debuted atop the Gaon Album Chart and became the idol's second consecutive Korean EP to sell over one million copies following "Delight."

Additionally, "Bambi" ranked No. 1 on iTunes Albums charts in at least 60 countries and on China's QQ Music's and Kugou Music's Best-Selling Digital Albums charts. On Billboard charts, Baekhyun's "Bambi" placed No. 15 on the World Albums Chart.
On May 1, EXO member Baekhyun held an online fan meeting that was broadcast live on V LIVE. During the livestream, he announced that he had recorded some OSTs and collaboration songs with Colde and Seomoontak that will be released following his military enlistment.
His collab track with Colde, titled "When Dawn Comes Again," was dropped on July 21. Check out the song's music video here!
