Mnet just revealed "Boys Planet," a sequel to the recently-concluded survival program "Girls Planet 999." It will premiere in 2022.

Mnet Reveals 'Boys Planet,' Set to Air in 2022

After the success of the idol survival program, "Girls Planet 999," which aired early this year, Mnet has announced the launch of its sequel, "Boys Planet."

Through the Mnet Asian Music Awards or MAMA, which was held last December 11 on Paju, Mnet dropped a trailer that announces that "Boys Planet" will begin in 2022.

In the trailer, the enticing lines, "The signal from New Planet" and "We are waiting for boys to go on a global journey together," were mentioned, these raised the viewers' anticipation for the upcoming music survival show.

"Boys Planet" is the male version of "Girls Planet 999." As of now, there are no further details about the upcoming show. However, netizens believe that the show will feature those male aspirants in the same age range as the girls' version. The aspirants will be those who are coming from Korea, Japan, and China.

But unlike the girls' version, "Boys Planet" will not include those who belong to any company. Also, aspirants should choose two from five major categories for the audition: acting, dancing, producing, rap, and singing.

Meanwhile, the girl group from "Girls Planet 999" "Kep1er," was set to debut this month. But, because of a staff who got positive for COVID-19, their debut was postponed indefinitely.

Mnet Receives Disappointments after the '2021 MAMA'

The "2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards," held last December 11, gathered legendary artists who are responsible for the past and present of K-Pop which creates different prospects for the future.

Hyori Lee, the show's first female host conveyed her emotions at the awards ceremony for it has been a long time since she faced and heard the shouts of the audience, Hyori Lee was moved to tears because of the overwhelming shouts of the audience.

In particular, the ending stage with Lee Hyori and the eight crews of "Street Woman Fighter" has drawn attention. They created a legendary stage by giving an intense stage with "DO THE DANCE" which is included in the "2021 MAMA Special Album."

In addition, Wanna One's special stage, which reunited the members for the first time in three years, provided a welcome return of the team that is remarkable. The members' performance, which seemed to revisit the past performances, aroused nostalgia for the short but brilliant active period.

However, there were voices of disappointment and criticism. This is because some groups like BTS, SEVENTEEN, and TWICE, who achieved great results this year did not appear during the event.

Moreover, the screen did not allow viewers to properly appreciate the stage, and the receiving of the awards was cut short and did not show the winners' expressions upon winning.

Some netizens also expressed their disappointment as some groups who were nominated did not take home any awards.

Nevertheless, in the sea of mixed opinions, this year's MAMA achieved great results like a global topic of discussion online and a relatively fair awarding. It is expected that next year's MAMA will be better than this year.
