Stray Kids Hyunjin's Solo Performance During 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs) Draws Mixed Opinions
On December 11, the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) was held at the CJ ENM Contents Center in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
This year, the MAMA featured several fourth-generation groups. Right from the opening, the first stage featured the main dancers of six top fourth-generation idol groups — Stray Kids' Hyunjin, ATEEZ's Wooyoung, ITZY's Yeji, TXT's Yeonjun, aespa's Karina and ENHYPEN's Heeseung.
The joint performance was called "BlooM the Sound." The stage is meant to convey the event's main theme, "MAKE SOME NOISE," to the show's global audience.

Following the performance, aespa member Karina became a hot topic on South Korean online forums, with people criticizing her dancing skills. Many people commented that though she is beautiful and her aura shined, her movements were stiff. Others said this stage highlights her weaknesses as a dancer.
Soon, people also started criticizing Hyunjin for his solo performance. They began discussing the idol's dance on South Korean online community forums, with many complaining about the male idol's rigid, unnatural and "unattractive" hand and foot movements. Others claimed that he was just not a good dancer.
They soon started comparing Karina and Hyunjin's performances. Others stated that Hyunjin's performance was unwatchable due to his past bullying controversy, which has left a stain on his career.
However, some state that Hyunjin is still a better dancer regardless of personality than Karina. This is proven by his several fancams that went viral online.

Some comments concerning Hyunjin's dancing include, "He can't dance well, AND he bullied in school?!" "How can he dance like this and still have people saying he dances well and that he is legendary?" "Are people saying Hyunjin dances worse than Karina? That's hilarious," and "Regardless of his school bullying scandal, people should not bash Hyunjin's dance skills."

On December 11, Stray Kids won the "Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10" award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs). On December 2, the boy group won the "Performance of the Year (Daesang) award at the Asian Artist Awards (AAAs).
