Former BTOB Jung Ilhoon's 2-Year Imprisonment Reduced to 3-Year Probation during Appeal Trial

Former BTOB member Jung Ilhoon, who was initially sentenced to two years in prison, has received a new sentence of three-year probation during his appeal trial.

Former BTOB Jung Ilhoon Receives New Sentence of 3-Year Probation for His Illegal Drug Use

On Dec. 16, the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court sentenced Jung Ilhoon to two years in prison should he commit another crime concerning illegal drugs during three-year probation. Moreover, the former BTOB member is required to attend 40 hours of rehabilitation education.

Jung Ilhoon previously received a sentence of two-year imprisonment this past June during the first trial of his case for illegal drug use. He was also fined 133 million (nearly $119,200) for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc.

He was brought to trial for suspicions of buying and smoking 826 grams of marijuana using almost 130 million won across 161 instances between July 5, 2016 and Jan. 9, 2019 alongside seven other defendants. Among the accused, former BTOB member Jung Ilhoon and Park had the highest number of times when they carried out criminal acts.

During the appeal trial held today, the court stated that Jung and the other defendants have a relatively long period of crime and have smoked often. "However, he did not engage in commercial activities like sales and distribution other than purchasing and using it himself," they added.

According to Jung Ilhoon's legal representative, the former BTOB member is currently receiving mental health treatment to prevent him from doing his past drug use once again. While doing so, Jung will maintain his connection with his family and close friends.

Meanwhile, the other defendants all received the same sentence of imprisonment and fines.

In December 2020, Jung Ilhoon was reported to be under investigation by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency alongside accomplices for buying and using marijuana over the past four to five years. It was said that his case was submitted to prosecution in July of the same year.

BTOB's "Hour Moment" is composed of five songs including the title track "Beautiful Pain." In the first week of release, the album sold more than 91,000 copies on the Hanteo Chart.

In February 2019, Jung Ilhoon released the digital single "Spoiler," which features soloist Babylon. Then, BTOB dropped the compilation album "Piece of BTOB" one month after. It sold over 10,500 copies on the Gaon in the entire month of March.
