BLACKPINK Members Draw Backlash for Supporting 'Snowdrop' Amid Petition to Cancel Jisoo's Drama

Following a national petition against JTBC's "Snowdrop," BLACKPINK members who expressed their support to Jisoo, the main lead of the drama, also received secondhand criticism for also showing support to the controversial work.

On December 20, BLACKPINK members received criticism for promoting JTBC's new drama, "Snowdrop," starting Jisoo and Jung Hae In. It premiered December 18.

In particular, the drama that's being accused of history distortion is currently on the brink of cancellation after a national petition against its broadcast gained over 200k signs.

As people continue to elucidate why the drama should be abolished, BLACKPINK members also became the receiving end of harsh remarks for supporting it.

BLACKPINK Rosé and Lisa posted a promotional article on social media on the day of its premiere. Lisa also posted a teaser video for the drama and shouted, "Don't miss Snowdrop," while Rosé uploaded some broadcast information. The two also seemed to have watched the first episode real-time, based on their most recent Instagram Stories.

Along with them, Jennie also uploaded a photo of Jisoo who attended the drama production presentation held on December 16, saying, "I'm looking forward to our Youngro."

BLACKPINK members who cheered on their eldest member's small screen debut as the main character initially gained praises from fans. Unfortunately, others paint the situation in a bad light.

BLACKPINK is the best "global K-pop girl group" recognized by others. They have more than 70 million YouTube channel subscribers, setting the highest record in the history of male and female artists around the world, and is showing a global influence in various fields, with all members working in luxury fashion brand ambassadors.

As such a group with a great ripple effect, there are concerns that the scope of historical distortion could expand, not only to Koreans but to foreign fans as well who are not well aware of Korean history.

BLACKPINK Jennie Tops Girl Group's Personal Brand Reputation Rankings + See Rankings of Other Members

On the recently released rankings for girl group personal brand reputation rankings, BLACKPINK Jennie regained her spot as No. 1 with a 2.6 million index. The keywords linked to the "SOLO" singer are "chic," "revealed" and "sexy."

Along with her, Lisa and Jisoo also showcased their popularity by being included in the top 10, ranking No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Lastly, Rosé also entered the top 100 at No. 82.
