Sunmi has been in the K-pop industry since she made her debut in 2006 in Wonder Girls, JYP Entertainment's first girl group. The band disbanded in 2017 after Sunmi along with her bandmates decided not to renew her contract with JYPE. Additionally, the song spent three weeks in the rankings. "Tail" also made it to Billboard's K-pop 100 chart where it peaked at No. 14 and stayed on the chart for 17 weeks.

In August, Sunmi made her second comeback in 2021 with her third mini-album "1/6 (One-Sixth)." This EP holds her highest first-week sales record to date. It sold a total of 16,305 copies, which is over 5.6 times higher than the first-week sales of her previous album "Warning."
On the World Digital Song Sales chart, the album's title track "You Can't Sit With Us" debuted and peaked at No. 10, becoming Sunmi's highest peak on the chart this year. It has also become her seventh Top 10 entry.
As mentioned above, the former Wonder Girls member is also the ambassador for PUMA Korea. And, this year, they launched a new global campaign called "She Moves Us," which purpose is to send positive messages to women across the globe.
Apart from her gains from her musical activities and endorsement deals, Sunmi's net worth also includes her earnings from her YouTube channel, which has 1.33 million subscribers. Reportedly, her channel gains around 30,000 views per day and about 909,000 views a month.
