BTS, IU Take Home 'Daesang' from the 36th Golden Disc Awards
On January 8, the 36th Golden Disc Awards handed the grand prizes - or "daesang" - to global phenom BTS and icon IU.
BTS, who recorded the highest sales of 3,724,898 copies for their album "BE," set another record of winning the Golden Disc's "Album of the Year" for five consecutive years.
The septet won the most awards (35 times) at the Golden Disc Awards, breaking the record once again with this year's annual ceremony.
On this day, BTS recorded the most trophies by winning the Bonsangs, Digital Song Division, Album Division, seezn Golden Disc Popularity, and the Daesang, Album of the Year Awards.
Meanwhile, IU won the daesang in the digital music category for the third time. Not only did she receive the Bonsang and Daesang awards in the digital music category, but she also received the Bonsang trophy in the album category at the Golden Disc Awards for the first time since her debut.
The Rookie of the Year award was won by aespa and STAYC, proving their title "rookie monsters."
The Brave Girls, an icon of reverse running and the cause of the stingray dance syndrome, won the Best Group award during their first Golden Disc Awards attendance. Young-Woong Lim, who is loved by various age groups, was selected as the best solo artist this time following the best trot last time.

The 36th Golden Disc Awards was held on January 8 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.
In past years, the Golden Disc Awards was held two days; it was split according to Album and Digital Song divisions. This year, the awards ceremony was held in just one day to adhere to the social distancing regulations.
Moreover, there was no audience present and the performances were pre-recorded.
BTS and IU as 'Legends'
On an online fan community platform, netizens selected BTS and IU as two active K-pop artists that are already considered legends.
Normally, artists earn the title "legend" after their prime years, once their songs become classics in the music industry.
