On various Korean online communities, a controversy arose online over the spread of revelations claiming that Winter, a graduate of Samsung Middle School in Yangsan, wrote abusive language and profanity in her school days, and even caricatured EXO members.
Following these posts, aespa Winter immediately received criticisms, given that K-pop icon EXO is a senior group of aespa under SM Entertainment.
As more showed interest in the posts, Netizen A on January 9 claimed she is actually "winter" implied in the post.
Netizen A, who identified aespa Winter as having the same name as hers, posted an article on an online community saying, "I'm Kim Minjeong, who attended Yangsan Jungang Middle School. I was born in 2001 like Winter, but I don't even know her."
To prove that she's actually Kim Minjeong as well, Netizen A also released her graduation album and ID card, showing that she really shared the same name as aespa Winter's real name (Kim Minjeong).

"I will take legal action because my personal information is spreading and sexual harassment and defamation are also happening," Kim warned.
