'BTS' Face Masks with DOBU Mask Become a Topic of Heated Discussion Due to Steep Prices - Here's How Much They Cost

'BTS' Face Masks Become the Subject of Controversy over High Prices - Will it be a Good Purchase?

On Jan. 7, DOBU Mask officially announced that they have teamed up with BTS to release a new line of specially designed face masks. The first edition of the collaboration, called "BTS Artwork Mask," starts with the theme of their GRAMMY-nominated song "Butter."

The upcoming set of BTS face masks will be made available in seven different colors for each of the band members: RM (black), Jin (pink), Suga (green), J-Hope (light blue), Jimin (orange), V (purple), and Jungkook (blue).

In addition to the single boxes, there's also a special package that will contain all seven masks, plus a limited edition "Butter"-colored mask.

Pre-orders for the "Butter"-themed face masks started on Jan. 10 and are currently taking place on DobuMall. Many fans were delighted upon the opening of reservations for the "BTS Artwork Mask." However, a heated debate occurred after learning of the "BTS" face masks' prices.

Reportedly, the special package consisting of seven masks cost 35,000 won (approximately $29). This means each mask is priced at 5,000 won (roughly $4), which is five times more expensive than regular masks, which are usually about 1,000 won ($0.84) each.

If the BTS face masks are purchased as a set, the price rises to 245,000 won (approximately $205) and it includes a total of 56 masks. The rate would be slightly lowered to 4,375 won (about $4) per unit, but it is still more expensive than regular masks.

Currently, the opinions of fans and netizens are greatly divided. Some online community users from theqoo commented that if they were fans of BTS, they would buy all seven sets and think of them as official goods.

On the contrary, many of the fans are complaining and questioning why the BTS face masks' prices from DOBU Mask is higher than regular masks. The other netizens also had the same opinions. One netizen commented that the rate is high for something disposable, while another one said that the price doesn't make sense even if BTS is already a big group now.

BTS Takes Home Album of the Year for Five Consecutive Years at 36th Golden Disc Awards

In other news, BTS claimed several awards at the 36th Golden Disc Awards, which took place on Jan. 8 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

One of the titles BTS received is the Disc Daesang (Album of the Year) with their 2020 album "BE." This is the fifth year in a row that the septet earned the said award. In 2021, they made history by being the first artist to win five total Daesangs at the Golden Disc Awards. So, now they have extended this record with six.

In addition to the Album of the Year, BTS also won one of the "Digital Song Division Bonsang" awards, one of the "Album Division Bonsang" awards, and seezn Golden Disc Popularity Award.
