SHINee Taemin Receives Malicious Comments About His Health, Military Fellows Defend Him
It was reported last January 14 that SHINee's maknae Taemin will be spending the remainder of his mandatory military service as a supplementary role. This is because of Taemin's worsening symptoms of depression and panic disorder.
Since the news of Taemin's condition came out, fans and well-wishers expressed their support for the idol. They wished that he recovers quickly and he will come back healthy.
However, there were a handful of malicious commenters who expressed issues about Taemin carrying out the remainder of his mandatory military service as a supplementary role.
A colleague who was with Taemin at the military training center defended him, and explained that Taemin tried to stay strong and energetic despite his condition.
He wrote, "I am a colleague of Taemin who trained at the Nonsan basic training camp. Starting from the basic training, he brought a lot of depression medication, and he would be issued the medication every evening during dinner time. Every time it was difficult for him, he tried to stay positive and bright since he's in front of younger colleagues, and he would play with us a lot too."
He added, "I heard he had suffered from these illnesses even before enlisting, but he always gave his best effort in every training. So, please refrain from saying stuff about him."

Another fellow colleague also left a message supporting the idol and explained how Taemin tried to recover from his illness. The colleague added that Taemin gave his best efforts despite his worsening condition.
One colleague commented, "I was someone who went through an assessment with Taemin-hyung. I stayed with him for two weeks, and he was issued medication for his depression and panic disorder every night. Still, he was having a hard time. He was also given sleeping pills or 6-8 pills of sleeping assistance supplements. Still, he would often have nightmares and wake up in the middle of the night. That wasn't enough, so he would take additional medication at night. Despite all this, he would constantly smile at the military barracks officers who are being assessed and would listen to their consultations."
He continued, "Even though he wasn't in good health himself, he would take care of others around him, and he was a good older brother. He was such a kind Hyung who even cheered me telling me to have strength. He also said he was afraid of what people would say when he leaves."
The other colleague concluded, "He is not feeling well. So please do not say anything. Thank you."
SHINee Taemin Gets Transferred to Supplementary Role Due To Mental Health Issues
On January 14, SM Entertainment, SHINee Taemin's agency, issued an official statement saying that Taemin has been transferred to the Ministry of National Defense Service Support Team as a supplementary role.
Taemin has been receiving treatment and counseling while serving in the military due to symptoms of depression and panic disorder that he has suffered before. He is going to fulfill his military duty as a social service worker.
SM Entertainment promises that they will do their best to help Taemin focus on treatment and rest.
SHINee Taemin entered the Nonsan Army Training Center in South Chungcheong Province on May 31, 2021, and after completing his basic military training, he has been serving in the army band.
