2021 MelOn Year-End Chart: BTS 'Dynamite' is the Highest-Charting Song by a Boy Group

On January 25, KST, Korean music streaming platform MelOn announced its year-end charts for 2021. In particular, they announced the songs by boy groups and girl groups that charted the highest in the past year.

Topping MelOn's year-end chart for the highest-charting boy group songs in 2021 at No. 1 is none other than global superstars BTS and their hit English single "Dynamite"!

"Dynamite" was first released back in August 2020 as the seven-member group's first-ever song recorded fully in English.

An upbeat disco-pop song featuring elements of bubblegum pop, funk, and soul with influences from 1970s music, "Dynamite" was written by Jessica Agombar and David Stewart, with HYBE's in-house producer Pdogg, Jenna Andrews, and more taking part in the song's production.

Apart from the highest-charting songs by boy groups, "Dynamite" also made it to No. 3 on MelOn's overall year-end chart, following behind IU's "Celebrity" and Brave Girls' 'Rollin'."

In addition, BTS is also the only boy group to enter within the top ranks of MelOn's year-end chart for 2021 for their second year in a row.

"Dynamite" isn't the only song by BTS that is the highest-charting song by a boy group. In fact, their second English-language single "Butter" isn't falling behind at No. 2.

At No. 3 is their remix of Jason Derulo's "Savage Love," at No. 4 is "Life Goes On," at No. 5 is "Boy With Luv," at No. 6 is "Spring Day," and at No. 7 is "Permission to Dance."

More notably, this marks the fifth year of "Spring Day" maintaining its spot within the Top 50 of MelOn's year-end charts.

2021 MelOn Year-End Chart: Brave Girls 'Rollin'' is the Highest-Charting Song by a Girl Group

Over on the girl groups side, taking the top spot as the highest-charting song at No. 1 by a girl group is "Rollin'" by Brave Entertainment's Brave Girls.

"Rollin'" was initially released back in March 2017 when the girl group still had five members in their lineup. The song was produced and written by Brave Brothers, Chakun, and Two Champ, and had received moderate success on charts.

However, both Brave Girls and "Rollin'" saw a reverse run on the charts after the song became viral on social media in February 2021 after a video of members Yuna, Minyoung, Yujeong, and Eunji performing the song for Korean military soldiers went viral on Youtube.

"Rollin'" went on to re-enter and top real-time charts such as Genie, Bugs, FLO, and MelOn, making the group have a "real-time all-kill."

Not only is "Rollin'" the highest-charting song by a girl group on MelOn, but it also ranked at No. 2 on MelOn's overall year-end chart.
