MAMAMOO Wheein dropped her first solo mini-album "WHEE" on January 16 through her new nest, The Live, that features tracks unlike the ones she released before.
Fittingly called "WHEE," which is derived from her name and means light in Hanja, Wheein's solo album features the singer's softer and more feminine side.

In her recent interview, Wheein revealed her inspiration from her new album and explained how moving to a different label helped give her a new perspective on her music.

The singer also opened up about her single, "Make Me Happy," which features a light and jazzy soft-pop melody paired with Wheein's airy vocals.
Even though the song is well-performed, the singer admitted that she didn't think it would be the front track on her album.
MAMAMOO Wheein Dubs 'Make Me Happy' as Addictive
Wheein explained that she's not one to push for a single song in the album to become her main track because each song has its own appeal. However, "Make Me Happy" stood out for her because it has an addictive hook to it.
Even though "WHEE" isn't her first solo album per se, it is the singer's first project with her new label, The Live.
The singer departed her old label, RBW last year after working with the management for several years.

According to Wheein, working with RBW felt more comfortable for her because she's so used to working with everyone from the team. But joining The Live gave her a different vibe when it comes to her music, as well as her appearance.
In the past, Wheein wasn't very girly or feminine but she adapted to the songs in "WHEE" and started dressing up in clothes with girly details.
However, fans of the singer shouldn't get used to this style or even to her ultra-feminine music. After all, Wheein vowed to continue evolving while she's in the music industry.
MAMAMOO Wheein's Departure From RBW
In June 2021, RBW announced Wheein's decision to not renew her contract with the management, as well as MAMAMOO. However, Wheein will continue to do promotions with the group until December 2023.
The management revealed that they had a lengthy discussion about Wheein's future with MAMAMOO.
In the end, she decided to pursue a solo career, and RBW wished her the best of luck.
The other three members of MAMAMOO, Solar, Moonbyul, and Hwasa, are still under RBW.

Wheein has not also fallen out with her former bandmates. In fact, following the release of "WHEE," Hwasa congratulated her good friend via social media.
Fans of MAMAMOO were thrilled over Hwasa's sweet gesture. But it's not surprising for the two singers to support each other publicly because Hwasa and Wheein have been friends since they were in middle school.
