BTS X Coldplay's 'My Universe' Ranks 35th on UK's 'Top 100' Chart

According to the chart released on February 4, "My Universe" ranked 35th, up to one place from the previous week.

"My Universe" was released on September 24, 2021, entered 3rd place on the official singles chart, and recorded the highest ranking.Although the song briefly left the charts for two weeks, it made its re-appearance on the chart last January.

"My Universe" is a collaboration song by BTS and British band Coldplay. BTS members also wrote some of the song's Korean lyrics. The two groups first performed a joint stage for fans around the world at the "2021 American Music Awards" held last November 2021.

BTS Scores a New Record on Oricon

On February 4, Big Hit Music announced that BTS achieved 2 million points in the Japanese Oricon chart's weekly combined single ranking with their hit song "Butter."

Oricon chart counts points by adding up the number of digital downloads and streaming every week. BTS achieved this figure twice in a row after recording a cumulative 2 million points with "Dynamite" in January.

"Butter," which was released in May 2021, earned 24,862 points weekly on the latest Oricon chart, it also ranked 5th in the "Weekly Combined Singles Ranking."

The hit track became the fifth song in history to exceed 2 million points. The agency added that BTS is the only singer with two or more songs with 2 million points accumulated on the Oricon charts.

In 2021, BTS won the "Singer of the Year Award" in May, July, and October with three songs: "Butter," "Permission to Dance," and "My Universe" in collaboration with Coldplay.

BTS Took Over Twitter in 2021

Last year, it was found that there were more than 7.8 billion K-pop-related tweets on Twitter around the world. This is an increase of about 16 % from 6.7 billion in 2020, the highest number ever.

On January 26, Twitter declared that the most mentioned K-pop artist in the world was BTS. Especially during the face-to-face concert "BTS Permission to Dance on Stage - LA" held in Los Angeles, USA last year. Over 68 million BTS-related tweets were poured out from around the world.

In particular, Indonesia was the country with the most K-pop-related tweets in the past year, followed by the Philippines, Korea, Thailand, and the United States.

According to Twitter, the interest of the global fandom, which has been limited to K-pop, has expanded to various genres such as movies, dramas, webtoons, sports, and entertainment last year.

Kim Yeon-Jung, managing director of global K-pop and K-content on Twitter, said, "As consumption of Korean content increased amid the novel coronavirus infection (COVID- 19 ) pandemic last year, the mutual influence between content genres was also prominent on Twitter."
