In Korea, the number of dogs that get abandoned or given up for adoption surpasses half a million every year. Therefore, the number of people who are advocating adopting dogs from shelters is increasing as well, and it includes celebrities like K-pop idols. Here are some of the Korean artists who have adopted a furry friend.
9 K-pop Idols Who Adopted Dogs to Give Them a New Home
WINNER Kang Seungyoon
WINNER member Kang Seungyoon announced that he had welcomed a new member of his family: a dog he adopted and named Thor.

Thor was rescued from a puppy mill and was scheduled for euthanasia as he couldn't find a permanent home. He was then saved in November 2017 and the volunteers shared his recovery on social media. After that, Kang Seungyoon reached out to them and expressed his desire to adopt Thor, and that's what happened.
BLACKPINK Rosé
BLACKPINK Rosé unveiled that she adopted an abandoned dog through an Instagram post she made in December 2020. Named Hank, the dog was previously called "Mir" and was taken care of at a shelter in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
Hank was hospitalized for three months due to an illness but Rosé adopted him and gave him a forever home. The vocalist can be seen expressing her love for her pet dog on Instagram as she always shares photos of her with Hank.
NU'EST Aron
NU'EST Aron kicked off 2019 by introducing the new member of his family by sharing a picture on Instagram on Jan. 1. The image shows his first dog (named Noah) along with another dog (named Kkotsooni), which turns out to be adopted.
In November 2018, a post was made on social media stating that a dog had been deserted because it shed too much fur and was staying in a parking lot. Aron's friend rescued this dog and the male idol decided to adopt her and named her Kkotsooni.
TWICE Momo
TWICE Momo is one of the K-pop idols well-known for adopting a dog. In January 2021, Momo and Nayeon held a live broadcast via Naver's V Live and announced that Momo adopted a new dog and named him Dobby.

Dobby has the same breed as Boo (TWICE Momo's first dog), which is a Norwich Terrier. In an Instagram post, Momo said that she was worried because Dobby was an abandoned dog but he easily got closer with Boo.
Loco
Rapper Loco introduced his furry friend to the public in December 2018. The dog, originally named Happy, had been abandoned in a loft when its owner moved out. A volunteer then rescued Happy and Loco heard about it and so he personally reached out to the volunteer group to adopt the dog. The rapper later gave the dog a new name, Latte.
Kim Sohye
Former I.O.I member Kim Sohye guested on channel A's "Dog Papa" in 2016 to temporarily take care of a dog named Milk, which she ended up officially adopting.
Throughout the show, Kim Sohye fell in love with Milk and so, she decided to make him part of her family.
MAMAMOO Moonbyul
Moonbyul, who has three welsh corgis, welcomed an abandoned dog into her family in December 2020. Initially called Harang, the dog was renamed Janggu.
It was revealed to have lived in a cage for two years as there were no suitable families for him and was abused before it was rescued. Because of this, the shelter thanked the MAMAMOO member for her heartwarming gesture.
HyunA and DAWN
Celebrity couple HyunA and DAWN adopted a dog together in December 2019 and named him Haenim, which means sunbeam in Korean. DAWN first announced it to the public through an Instagram post. In a separate post, HyunA can be seen happily petting Haenim.

A day after the post was made, the couple's agency P Nation shared that HyunA and DAWN often visits an animal shelter in Nowon-gu and they decided to adopt the dog after it caught their eye.
Yoon Jisung
Before the adoption of his new dog, former WANNA ONE member Yoon Jisung initially didn't want to adopt one as he didn't want to endure the same pain he had when he had to say goodbye to the dog he grew up with, named Sarang.
But after a long discussion, Jisung's mother brought home a dog, which they named Hodu sometime in 2019. This dog had a tragic past, being abandoned by five owners and was traumatized by being abused. Hodu eventually loved and trusted the male idol.
Yoon Jisung adopted another dog in 2021 and revealed him in February of the same year. He called him Vero and shared that he was saved from a container.
