On February 17, Younghoon, a member of THE BOYZ became a hot topic on various online community sites. Netters are particularly criticizing him, after spreading a private phone number due to his careless prank.
The issue started when the male idol was communicating with fans through a private message on the platform Universe.
"Younghoon, I'm Lee Jaehyun (Hyunjae), what was your number again after changing phone?," a fan said, impersonating a member of THE BOYZ.
Going along with the joke, Younghoon responded, "I said my number is 010-XXXX-XXXX," a phone number inspired by the debut day of the group, making it more meaningful.
However, after some minutes, Younghoon suddenly pleaded with fans, "Hold on. Don't call me. I didn't think about it. I'm sorry. It's a promise not to make a call." While some fans are confused why the idol said that, it was then revealed that the phone number mentioned by Younghoon was actually in use.
Victim 'A' Complains Suffering of Unwanted Calls, Messages for 2 Years Due to Phone Number
Younghoon corrected the "careless" prank in a minute, but the damage has already occurred.
One fan released a text message shared with the number user A said, "Where is my phone number connected? I've got dozens of calls," they said.
Another fan who had a conversation with A then explained the situation and extended an apology in place of Younghoon.
"Some celebrity pranked us saying it was his number. He played a joke on his debut day that it was a phone number, but he didn't think it was a real number. You must have been surprised, but I'm (we're) really sorry."
Grasping the whole situation, victim "A" opened up and complained in an open chat room of his suffering for having their number.
"I have the same number as THE BOYZ's debut date, so I get phone calls and delivery messages from all over the country. I got to know that THE BOYZ is an idol group thanks to more than eight calls per minute. The headquarters sent all the packages to THE BOYZ to their numbers. You won't believe it, but it's been two years."
In response, Korean internet users who saw the post criticized the idol and his fans. K-Netz pointed out that Younghoon is being careless about giving private information, although he was aware of his influence. The fans who have been calling "A" just because it's THE BOYZ's debut date were also to be "blamed," according to netizens.
On the other hand, supporters of the idol defended him, highlighting that it was a pure mistake and it's good he immediately realized his mistake before further damage.
