Mnet Announces Lineup For Season 2 of 'Queendom'

During season one, MAMAMOO took home the crown. Though they did not win, others idols such as AOA, (G)I-DLE and Oh My Girl benefited from the attention they received from the audience. In addition, Internet users loved how "Queendom" helped girl groups who were losing popularity regain their momentum. Because of that, many are anticipating season two.

After weeks of speculating the line-up, Mnet announced the official line-up of artists for season 2 on February 21. The K-pop groups competing on "Queendom" are Brave Girls, VIVIZ, Kep1er, Hyolyn, WJSN and LOONA.

This year's line-up gathers famous K-pop artists from three generations of K-pop. Hyolyn and Brave Girls are second-gen, WJSN and LOONA are third-gen and Kep1er and VIVIZ are fourth-gen. The production team stated that all participating artists are K-pop acts who have won first place on music shows.

'Queendom' Line-Up Draws Mixed Reviews

After the official line-up, internet users expressed mixed opinions. Many hoped that ITZY and Weki Meki would join "Queendom," as ITZY is a group that is becoming more popular internationally rather than South Korea, and Weki Meki is a group that has yet to attain success. Many expressed disappointment as these two artists are not part of the line-up.

Others stated that this year's line-up was more boring than season one of "Queendom," saying that the participating artists do not have the same fame as AOA, (G)-IDLE and Oh My Girl.

Though the show has not aired yet, some speculate that Mnet might focus on Kep1er. This is because the girl group was formed on the Mnet survival show "Girls Planet 999." As the girls had finished their journey on the show a few months ago, many are surprised that they are being thrust into a new survival show so quickly.

Some comments concerning the line-up for "Queendom" read, "Why is Hyolyn there?" "Why didn't ITZY and Weki Meki participate?" "Kep1er is one of the hottest rookies these days; there is no reason for them to join 'Queendom.' Is Mnet trying to push them? I would not be surprised if they were the final winner," and "Kep1er? They just debuted from a survival show and are now joining another one."
