2021 IFPI Global Album Sales Chart: SEVENTEEN Lands 2 Works, BTS Claims One Spot

IFPI has revealed the Global Album Sales Chart for 2021, and both BTS and SEVENTEEN managed to secure spots on the list.

2021 IFPI Global Album Sales Chart: SEVENTEEN Takes Two Places on the List

On March 1 local time, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) - a non-profit organization that illustrates the interests of the recording industry across the globe - announced the top 10 best-selling albums in 2021 based on worldwide physical sales and digital downloads.

SEVENTEEN became one of the only two artists to have two entries on IFPI's Global Album Sales Chart for 2021, together with renowned American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.

The 13-member boy group charted at No. 3 with their ninth mini-album "Attacca," which comes behind Adele's "30" and ABBA's "Voyage." They also landed at No. 8 with their eighth mini-album "Your Choice."

Both "Attacca" and "Your Choice" are known to be among the best-selling K-pop albums in 2021. Both of these have sold more than one million copies in the first week of release in South Korea alone. "Attacca" even went on to sell a whopping two million copies in the country just 19 days after it came out.

Notably, SEVENTEEN's "Your Choice" and "Attacca" hold the record for the second-highest and third-highest first-week sales in 2021, respectively, bested only by BTS's "Butter."

Regarding its global album sales, both albums were the No. 1 best-selling albums in the world for two consecutive weeks. They also both peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's World Albums chart and remained on the chart for more than 10 weeks.

2021 IFPI Global Album Sales Chart: BTS Secures One Spot with Japanese Compilation Album

Meanwhile, BTS had one entry to IFPI's Global Album Sales Chart for 2021 and it is their Japanese compilation album, titled "BTS, THE BEST."

"BTS, THE BEST" took the No. 4 spot on the list, following SEVENTEEN's "Attacca." This Japanese release is known to have broken the first-week sales record on the Oricon Chart in 2021 with just its first-day sales.

A total of 571,589 copies were sold on June 16 alone, surpassing the first-week sales amount of 467,000 copies achieved by SixTONES's "1ST."

This Japanese compilation album also ranked first on Oricon's year-end album chart, making BTS the first foreign artist in 37 years since Michael Jackson to secure first place on the tally.

Last year, BTS not only landed one album on IFPI's Global Album Sales Chart for 2020 but a total of three works. While "MAP OF THE SOUL: 7" ranked No. 1, "BE (Deluxe Edition)" charted at No. 2, and "MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ~The Journey~" placed No. 8.
