BIGBANG T.O.P Draws Backlash After 'Shading' BLACKPINK on Instagram

On April 18, BIGBANG member T.O.P took to his Instagram Stories to post about 2NE1's unexpected reunion at the 2022 Coachella Music Festival.

In his post, the male idol shared a tweet about how 2NE1 became the second girl group to ever perform at Coachella.

The original tweet included BLACKPINK's name, stating that 2NE1 joins BLACKPINK as the second group to ever perform at the music festival. However, T.O.P covered BLACKPINK's name in his post, only mentioning 2NE1.

This caused significant backlash, especially BLINKs (BLACKPINK fandom). Many are stating that removing BLACKPINK's name from the post was shady and unnecessary and that if he wanted to congratulate 2NE1 for reuniting at Coachella, he could have found a post that did not mention BLACKPINK.

YG Entertainment is known for their "YG Family," which references how artists under the company are more than just juniors and seniors; they are family. However, many believe that this is not the treatment BLACKPINK deserves from their "family members" and accused T.O.P of instigating hate against BLACKPINK.

However, people believe T.O.P was simply trying to celebrate 2NE1's reunion and had no malicious intent. Additionally, since he is no longer part of YG Entertainment, people assume he blocked out BLACKPINK's name to avoid being told he is using BLACKPINK's name for fame.

Others believe that since he is not from YG Entertainment anymore, he has to be careful when mentioning artists from the company, especially BLACKPINK. They speculate he purposely chose a photo with both BLACKPINK and 2NE1 so that he could promote both of the groups but blurred out BLACKPINK's name to avoid any trouble with his former company.

Following the backlash, T.O.P deleted the story from his Instagram.
