Forbes Korea's 'Power Celebrity 40': How Rankings Are Calculated
On April 28, Forbes Korea dropped its 2022 rankings for "Power Celebrity 40," the Korean version of "U.S. Forbes Highest-Paid Celebrity 100" (hereinafter "Celebrity 100").
Before we come to the list, here's how "Power Celebrity 40" were chosen. Aside from popularity (50%) based on their media, SNS, and broadcasting influence, the candidates' income (50%) was also calculated.
First, actors, singers, broadcasters, and sports stars were selected from Daum Kakao Portal from 2021 to 2022, and candidates with a high number of person searches were chosen.

In addition, broadcasting, film, and advertising fees are calculated to determine the income earned by candidates during the survey period. The method of estimating celebrity income (industry trade standards, research reports on securities firms, domestic and foreign aggregation sites, interviews, the National Tax Service, and precedents) is used to calculate it as a real value. In the case of singers, music revenue and performance income are added.
Along with this, other factors considered in the criteria were the artist's press power, influence in SNS and celebrity awareness among viewers of all ages.
The final score was normalized based on the actual survey values of each of the four categories (income, media, broadcasting, and SNS), and the scores of each category were added together.
40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Korea in 2022, According to Forbes Korea
BTS, who secured the No. 1 spot in 2018, 2020 and 2021, once again ranked first this year for the fourth time.
The global boy group overwhelmingly ranked No. 1 in the media, SNS, and income categories, the criteria for selecting Power Celebrity 40.
Following the "Biggest Boy Group in the World," the "Biggest Girl Group" BLACKPINK ranked second, maintaining their position last year.
Some of their biggest achievements last year to date include their mega-hit song "How You Like That," which surpassed 600 million streams on Spotify in March, a year and nine months after its release in June 2020.
The qruartet also showed off their robustness in the global music market through "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love."
In the Top 20, other idols entered the list like IU, who ranked 11th. Known as the "Nation's Sweetheart," she swept the domestic music charts last year by topping the 2021 digital chart of Gaon Chart, a music ranking chart, with "Celebrity" and ranked 17 songs in the top 200 – showing off her power.
TWICE, dubbed as "Nation's Girl Group," entered the top 20, proving their impact as "Sold-Out Queens" and by releasing hit tracks last year, such as "The Feels" and "Scientist."
In the top 30, two more idols entered the rankings: Bae Suzy and Kang Daniel.
