5 K-Pop Idols Known as 'Diplomat' of Their Group

Through the years, K-Pop has grown into something bigger, and has expanded to countries outside of South Korea. While K-Pop saw major success in Asia, it has since then become relatively well-known and successful in major countries like the United States. As a result, more K-Pop idols are learning different languages, such as English, and there has been a rise in foreign members in groups.

With that, here are some of the K-Pop idols who are dubbed as the "diplomat" in representing their group during international promotions.

1. ENHYPEN Jake

ENHYPEN member Jake was born in South Korea, but later moved to Australia where he grew up. He only returned to South Korea when he competed on the first season of the survival program "I-LAND," thus, he holds an Australian accent.

While fellow member Jay was born in the United States and is also fluent in English, Jake represents the group more when it comes to speaking English on their behalf.

2. aespa Giselle

aespa's Giselle in Japanese and Korean, having been born in South Korea and growing up in Japan. While in Japan, Giselle attended an international school, and even went to the Unites States to study.

As she grew up being surrounded by English speakers, she eventually became fluent in the language.

Because of this, she is the most proficient English-speaker within the group, and even interacted with festival-goers the most during their Coachella performance.

3. Red Velvet Wendy

At a young age, Red Velvet member Wendy moved to Canada with her older sister to pursue her studies. She later moved to the United States, and subsequently returned to Canada after a couple of years. While living in both countries, Wendy became fluent in English, and also learned a bit of Spanish and French.

With her background, Wendy became Red Velvet's go-to "translator" for their activities.

Hueningkai is like a melting pot himself with his foreign background. The TXT member was born in Hawaii, but grew up for around seven years in China before moving back to South Korea.

Hueningkai was also born to a Korean mother and a Brazilian-American father of German, Polish, and Scottish descent. With such an upbringing, Hueningkai became fluent in Korean, Mandarin, English, and Portuguese, making him the perfect "diplomat" of the group.

5. BTS RM

BTS' leader, RM, is basically the group's translator for whenever they make appearances on American broadcasts and international events. The rapper had revealed numerous times that he became proficient in English after watching the popular American show, "FRIENDS." So, when it comes to promoting and attending events outside of South Korea, RM is usually the one to step forward to speak and translate on behalf of BTS.
