Rain Shares He Had Trauma Following Appearance on MBC's 'Radio Star' in the Past

On the May 11 episode of the MBC entertainment show "Radio Star," Rain appeared as a guest alongside VIXX Ravi, Lee Jung, and Jung Hoyoung.

During the talk, the show hosts mentioned Rain's popular work from the past - "When Are You Going, Oppa," which is a song that Rain made and features female soloist HyunA.

The track did not garner much attention at the time of its release, but many people recently began listening to it after it was discovered that it contains unique and funny lyrics.

When HyunA previously guested on "Radio Star," she shared that "When Are You Going, Oppa" is a song that her boyfriend DAWN listens to when he wants to laugh.

Show host Kim Gura then asked Rain about what his wife Kim Taehee said about the track. He replied that Kim doesn't interfere in his work in any way.

As the discussion continued, Rain brought up his trauma about MBC's "Radio Star," surprising everyone in the studio. He revealed that he filmed an episode for eight hours but only had a few minutes of appearance when the program aired.

Rain said, "In the past, I said I wouldn't appear here, but still I guested and filmed for around eight hours. However, at that time, Kim Yu-na appeared on 'The Knee-Drop Guru' and I only had five minutes of appearance when 'Radio Star' went on air."

"The Knee-Drop Guru" was a segment of "Golden Fishery" that aired ahead of "Radio Star," the second segment of the same program.

Rain finally said, "I have no regrets [in appearing on the show], but I have trauma."

MBC's "Radio Star" is a talk show hosted by Kim Gook-jin, Kim Gura, Ahn Young-mi, and Yoo Se-yoon. It airs every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. KST.

Rain's Latest Solo Comeback

Rain's latest comeback was in March of last year when he released his third EP "Pieces by Rain," which is his new album after three years since "My Life" came out in December 2017.

"Pieces by Rain" features five new songs including his previously released collab tracks "Magnetic" (feat. Jackson Wang), "Why Don't We" (feat. Chungha), and "Switch to Me" (duet with J.Y. Park).

"Why Don't We" serves as the title song of the album. It was written and composed by BUMZU, Sik-K, Anchor, Elum, and Nmore.

In South Korea, Rain's third EP peaked at No. 23 on the Gaon Album Chart, while "Why Don't We" debuted at No. 11 on the Gaon Download Chart. The track also entered various daily Korean music charts; it debuted at No. 5 on Bugs, No. 29 on Genie, and No. 102 on MelOn.

Meanwhile, the B-side "Switch to Me" which came out in December 2020 earned Rain a music show trophy on the Jan. 14 episode of Mnet's "M Countdown." The track also soared high on Korean music charts, entering at No. 1 on Bugs and No. 6 on Genie on the day of its release (Dec. 31).
