Yves is a South Korean singer Blockberry Creative, and is well-known as a member of the 12-member girl group LOONA. She was revealed as the ninth member of the band in 2017, and officially debuted as a LOONA member in August 2018.
Although she uses the name "Yves" for her activities in the entertainment industry, her real name is actually Sooyoung (Ha Sooyoung). "Sooyoung" means "to swim" or "swimming" when translated in English. While her name carries this meaning, LOONA Yves cannot swim.

But before she was given the name "Sooyoung," her parents planned to name her "Neul" so that her full name would be "Ha Neul," which means "sky." However, traditional fortune tellers claimed it will bring her bad luck. The name "Haneul" was given to their family dog instead.

As mentioned above, Yves was unveiled as the ninth LOONA member in 2017, specifically on Nov. 28. At that time, she dropped her first single album "Yves." The album was released as the ninth installment of Blockberry Creative's "Girl of the Month" project, which involved revealing the LOONA members one by one.

"Yves" features two songs titled "new" and "D-1." A music video for "new" was released on the same day alongside the album. LOONA Yves' "new" is a soultronica genre track about transforming into a new person through pain and difficulties that come in your way.
LOONA Yves Pre-Debut Story
LOONA Yves may be born in Busan, but her family relocated to Yangsan. She lived with her grandmother, mother, and older sister. Her grandfather and father passed away when she was still young. Her mom runs a business, particularly a clothing shop.
In school, Yves is the type of student who is determined to achieve good grades. In fact, she wore glasses back in high school.
She began dreaming of becoming a K-pop idol when she saw Wonder Girls on TV. However, her mother was opposed to it. But then again, Yves didn't give up and attended a dance academy where she studied hip-hop dance and joined the dance club, with her mom being unaware of it. Her mother only knew about it when she was in Grade 11.

During those times, Ha Sooyoung was part of the dance cover group "E:Na," which covered many songs. She even appeared on DPOP for a cover dance of TWICE's "One More Time."
Yves eventually found a way to move to Seoul and became a trainee. She first trained at Hunus Entertainment before joining Polaris Entertainment (now called Blockberry Creative).
Because of her skills in dancing and singing, she only trained for three weeks, and became the LOONA member with the shortest training period.
