SISTAR Plagued by Numerous Rumors During Debut
Recently, former SISTAR member Soyou made a guest appearance on the May 23 episode of MBN's variety program "A Vacation in Hotel Suites." During her appearance, Soyou talked about her early debut days as a member of the former "Summer Queens."
Talking about SISTAR, Soyou recalls how everyone thought that the group had a strong personality and a bad attitude when they just made their debut.
"When SISTAR debuted, everyone thought that we were like these girls with a strong personality and bad attitude for some reason," Soyou said, adding that it may be due to some of their performances that people thought that way.
However, despite just making their debut, SISTAR was already surrounded with numerous rumors about them.
She said, "There were a lot of rumors about us then. They were things like, 'I heard that someone got beat up by SISTAR,' 'Someone I know got into a huge fight with SISTAR,' 'When the SISTAR members fight, the whole van shakes,' and so on. But none of those ever happened."
Soyou added that many of their industry seniors (sunbaes) have also fed to those rumors, which resulted in SISTAR being more affected.
"Many sunbaes have hurt us too. I have never been to a club, but they would be like, 'I heard that you go clubbing a lot.' I could just laugh these things off, that might be a way to deal with them," Soyou said.

However, while trying to ignore the rumors surrounding them, it got to a point where the rumors turned into something bigger and far form the truth.
She said, "But there were a good number of times when these rumors turned into something much bigger that was even farther from the truth. It got into the ears of our agency's staff. I didn't even step into a club then, as my agency didn't allow it [at the time]."
Soyou Couldn't Make Any Friends for Years During Early Debut Days
Soyou then confesses to becoming scared of what people would think of her after experiencing all of the rumors.
Due to her feeling afraid, she eventually wasn't able to make any new for a few years after making her debut.

"I started to feel afraid of what people would think of me. So, for about three years after making my debut, I couldn't make any new friends. I thought that everybody hated me or will hate me that time," she revealed.
Hearing this, actress Ye Ji Won tried to comfort Soyou, saying, "It was probably because you were really popular then. Those are words that always come with fame."
Ye Ji Won added, "You are such a cheerful and lovely person in real life though. You don't have a strong personality or a bad attitude. Although you may be physically strong."
Meanwhile, Soyou made her debut back in June 2020, when she was only 20 years old.
