The latest music video from Chinese singer Yuyan is being accused of copying Girls' Generation member Taeyeon's music video for "INVU."

Yuyan Accused of Plagiarizing Taeyeon's 'INVU' MV for 'WHO' Music Video

On May 26, Chinese singer and former 1THE9 member Yuyan released her music video for "WHO." Soon after the release, Chinese internet users pointed out how similar the music video was to Taeyeon's previous release, "INVU."

Several scenes appear to be copied from Taeyeon's "INVU" music video. In one scene, Yuyan is seen dancing in a room adorned with marble pillars, walls, and furniture with her backup dancers. A similar scene is seen in Taeyeon's "INVU" video.

In another scene, Yuyan is seen in a wasteland. Meteors are showering from the sky, buildings burning in the background, and sand and rock all over the ground. Yuyan is seen wearing brown clothing in this scene. Again, a similar scene can be found in Taeyeon's "INVU" music video.

Additionally, both music videos feature a scene in which an explosion happens in space.

In the "WHO" music video, Yuyan and her backup dancers dance in front of the moon, their feet submerged in water. Taeyeon and her backup dancers can be seen doing something similar in "INVU."

Yuyan is also seen in a forest in her music video, with magical dust coming from her hand. In the video, she is seen wearing a brown dress. In "INVU," Taeyeon is also seen out in the wilderness, in a brown dress, with magical dust coming from her hand.

In another scene, Yuyan is seen leaning on her side on top of a platform. This is slightly similar to a scene in "INVU," where Taeyeon is seen resting on a platform in a marble room.

Their styling in the video was also similar. In "WHO," a close-up of Yuyan's make-up is seen, which shows the idol with rhinestones under her eye. In "INVU," Taeyeon is seen with stones under her eye as well.

How Are People Reacting to the Alleged Plagiarism?

While some people initially tried to defend Yuyan by saying it was a common concept, many could not deny the similarities between the two music videos.

Yuyan's team received backlash from internet users both in China and South Korea. People claimed Yuyan's music video looked like a cheap copy of Taeyeon's, with many noting the gap in visual effects and visuals.

Comments concerning the two music videos read,

"Even as someone who does not know anything, I can tell that there are a lot of similarities."

"What is up with the quality? If they want to copy, at least do it properly. The level has fallen."

"They have so many people living there, but nobody has creativity."

"It looks f*cking bad."

"Even if they keep copying, it still looks cheap."

"Wow, there is a big gap in the visuals."
