Where Is Elkie Now? Status of First CLC Member Who Left the Group

Prior to CLC's disbandment, the girl group already saw a few members left, and one of them is the Chinese member Elkie Chong. She actually terminated her contract with CUBE Entertainment for the reason that the agency had violations.

Elkie's Activities Before Leaving CLC

Elkie, whose birth name is Ting Yan Chong, was already famous mainly in Hong Kong prior to her debut in South Korea as a member of CUBE Entertainment's then girl group CLC. She is widely known as a former member of Hong Kong's project girl group Honey Bees. She was also a child actress under TVB.

CLC made their debut in March 2015, but Elkie was only added in 2016 alongside Kwon Eunbin, making the girl group a septet. Chong officially debuted as a member of the band in February 2016 with the EP "Refresh."

Apart from group activities, CLC Elkie also had solo projects. She made her K-drama debut in March 2018 in the weekend show "Rich Family's Son," where she played a Chinese foreign exchange student named Mong Mong.

Chong also made her solo debut under CUBE Entertainment. She dropped her first solo digital single "I Dream" in November 2018. Then, in 2019, she was cast in the Chinese drama "A Little Thing Called First Love" as Yang Man Ling, a senior who is in charge of a radio station.

Elkie's last activity as a CLC member was in September 2020 when the group released their single "Helicopter," which was co-written by band member Yeeun. "Helicopter" also later became CLC's last group promotion as they disbanded in May 2022.

Why Did Elkie Leave CLC?

In December 2020, CLC Elkie was revealed to have sent a legal notice to CUBE Entertainment requesting to terminate her contract. She claimed that she wasn't receiving pay for her acting activities, and that CUBE had already stopped their "developmental support" of CLC.

Three months later, Elkie officially left CLC after her contract with the agency was officially terminated. CUBE said that the conclusion of her contract follows a mutual agreement between both parties.

Although she left the group, Chong maintains a good relationship with her former CLC members.

At present, former CLC Elkie resides in mainland China, and is also pursuing a career there. She became a regular cast member of the Chinese television show "Let's Go! CAMPING" or "2 Days & 1 Night Mountain Island Sea." This program, which premiered in February and ended in April, followed the cast on various trips around the country.

Chong also uploads new videos to her personal YouTube channel now and then. She opened her channel just less than two weeks after leaving CLC and CUBE. Her latest video to date is her visit to a clinic to get acupuncture.

Elkie often updates her personal Instagram account as well to update fans on where she is and what she's doing.

Regarding her music release, her latest one is "Gave My Heart Away," which is her collaboration song with T.U.B.S member Ji Li. This track came out in June 2021.
