BTS Confesses They Were 'Shocked and Devastated' by Hate Crimes Against Asians

During their visit to The White House press briefing, BTS revealed their true feelings concerning hate crimes against Asians in the United States.

BTS Speaks at the White House Press Briefing

Before their momentous meeting with US President Joe Biden, BTS made a special appearance at the White House press briefing.

On May 31, local time, BTS will meet with President Joe Biden. The President invited the K-pop superstars to discuss anti-Asian hate crimes, Asian representation & inclusion, and discrimination and to celebrate the end of AANHPI Heritage Month.

As youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity to many worldwide, BTS was invited to sit with the President and discuss the importance of inclusion and diversity.

During the press briefing, press secretary Karina Jean-Pierre introduced BTS as "pop phenoms" and "Grammy-nominated icons who play an essential role as youth ambassadors in promoting a message of positivity and respect."

BTS Reveals Feelings About Hate Crimes Against Asians in the US

Following their introduction, each member of BTS gave brief remarks, with RM starting in English and the other members speaking in Korean.

RM was the first to go, thanking press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and introducing BTS. He then says, "It is a great honor to be invited to the White House to discuss the important topics of anti-Asian hate crimes, Asian inclusion, and diversity."

Next was Jin, who said, "It is the last day of AANHPI Heritage Month. We have gathered at the White House today to show our support for the AANHPI community and mark the occasion."

Jimin continued, saying, "The recent surge in hate crimes against Asians has us shocked and devastated. We would like to use this opportunity to speak up in the hopes of helping to put a stop to these types of crimes."

J-Hope thanked the ARMYs, saying, "We feel the only reason we are here today is because of the fans who love our music, ARMY, who represent diverse ethnicities, cultures, and languages. We are grateful beyond words."

Next was Jungkook, who stated, "I continue to be amazed at how Korean musicians' music can transcend culture and language to reach so many people worldwide. I believe music is an excellent vehicle for bringing people together."

Suga spoke after, adding, "Just because something is not like me does not mean that is wrong. I believe that embracing our differences rather than thinking of them in terms of right and wrong is the first step toward equality."

V then spoke after, saying, "Each of us has a unique history. I hope that today can be another step toward mutual respect and recognition that every one of us is a valuable person."

Leader RM concluded their brief speech in English, "Finally, we want to express our gratitude to President Biden and the White House for allowing us with this valuable opportunity to speak about critical issues and remind ourselves of what we can accomplish as artists. Thank you so much once more."
