Hyeyeon is a former member of Jellyfish Entertainment's first girl group gugudan, which unfortunately disbanded in December 2020. Even before the members went their separate ways, Hyeyeon already left the team just two years after their debut.

Hyeyeon's Activities Before Leaving gugudan
Cho Hyeyeon debuted as a member of gugudan in June 2016. She was not only the maknae of the team but also the lead dancer, lead vocalist, and rapper.
Since 2016, Hyeyeon has been active in participating in gugudan's comebacks, from releasing their second mini-album "Act. 2 Narcissus" to dropping their second single album "Act. 4 Cait Sith."

"Act. 4 Cait Sith" became Cho's last music release as a gugudan member as she left the group in October 2018. But prior to that, she went on a hiatus starting in May of the same year.
Why Did Hyeyeon Leave gugudan?
On May 17, 2018, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that gugudan Hyeyeon will take a break from group activities due to health concerns. The label added that the decision was made due to the judgment that rest and treatment are the main priority for the recovery of the idol's health.
However, just five months later, Hyeyeon eventually left gugudan. Jellyfish didn't mention a specific reason for her departure and only said that the decision was made after multiple discussions about the future career path and activities in the entertainment industry for the maknae.

But the company did say that Hyeyeon has been dedicated to her studies since May while she was on a hiatus from the entertainment industry. As such, it can be assumed that the idol left the team to focus on her education, as well as on her health.

When Jellyfish Entertainment announced Hyeyeon's departure from gugudan, it was unclear if she left the agency as well. But it is now confirmed that she's no longer under Jellyfish as she was revealed to have signed with a new label in March 2022.
On March 4, Beyond J announced that Hyeyeon had joined the company and will promote as an actress under the new stage name Jo Aram.
Beyond J stated, "Jo Aram is filled with a bright, lovable energy that catches the attention of those who see her. She has extensive hidden potential as an actress, and we are looking forward to her future activities."

The company continued that they plan to work and journey with Hyeyeon, who is now actress Jo Aram, so that she can reach various activities through a broad range of projects and platforms. They finally said, "We ask that you please give her lots of love, interest, and support."
Meanwhile, Jo Aram said through Beyond J, "From now on, I want to greet viewers as an actress through projects. I'm exceptionally happy and thrilled to be making a fresh start as an actress. As I begin with a new mindset, I will become a good actress who learns eagerly, works hard, and acts with sincerity."
Jo Aram currently appears in the new tvN drama "The Killer's Shopping List," which also stars AOA Seolhyun and Lee Kwang Soo. She plays the role of a part-time worker at MS Mart. Her new agency, Beyond J, is the production company behind the said drama.
Beyond J, is famous for dramas like "Nevertheless," "The Ghost Detective," and "The Secret Life of My Secretary."
