In a recent interview, Mnet's "Queendom 2" producers denied the allegations that they purposely "evil edited" VIVIZ SinB.
Here's their explanation.
On June 15, Korean media outlet Celeb Media conducted an interview with Producer Lee Yeon Kyu, Lee Hyung Jin, and Yoo Jun Sang at CJ ENM Center in Sangamsan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul to commemorate the success of Mnet's "Queendom 2."
"Queendom 2" is a survival entertainment program that depicts the global comeback war between representative K-pop girl groups including Hyolyn, Brave Girls, WJSN, LOONA, VIVIZ and Kep1er.
During the broadcast then, the use of "memes," which instills new characters for artists, also stood out.
However, there were many concerns about Mnet's survival audition program's unique editing techniques of editing casts to show competitive composition and conflict.
If not well received, this can lead to controversy over the artist which later on earned the nickname, "Mnet's evil editing."
'Queendom' PDs Reveals Why They Show VIVIZ SinB's Various Facial Expressions on Program
While on the topic, Producer Lee Yeon Kyu and Yoo Jun Sang explained the alleged "evil editing" SinB of VIVI during the show.
In context, during the broadcast, SinB dynamic facial expression became a hot topic. One example was when she showcased her disappointment with the competition's rankings by frowning her brows or showing her frustrated smile.
Producer Lee Yeon Kyu said:
"Idols can hide their facial expressions, but when we announced the ranking and saw SinB's facial expressions, we were wary at first. She doesn't look so happy.
But that's actually SinB's habit. She said it's okay (to broadcast) because she always makes that face. If the artist had been hit a little hard, we would have controlled it, but we had fun because the artist enjoyed it, too."

The PDs also revealed that they also have a lot of concerns about whether to use clips of SinB showing her expressions but went on by explaining that they added them not just for entertainment but to capture SinB's real and honest charms.
In fact, SinB herself coordinated with the PD herself to appeal to her genuine side without hiding anything:
"I think I was a little worried [...] but since she's natural and honest, I believed that the viewers would recognize SinB's honest charm if she captured it well on the show. So I asked her to be as natural as possible, and SinB followed me like that. Fortunately, I think the viewers liked that."
Mnet 'Queendom' PD Denies It Was Malicious Editing + Shares Real Purpose of Show
In regards to allegations that they purposely edited SinB and portrayed her in a bad light, PD Lee clarified the rumor and said:
"If it was a malicious editing, we wouldn't have put subtitles like 'concentrating eyebrows' (to avoid misunderstandings).
I hope that the public will enjoy the charms of people and will not interpret Mnet as making fun of them. It will become a fun part if you understood it like that."
PD Yoo also commented:
"The purpose of 'Queendom 2' was to allow the public to get to know more about these teams. If I really tried to make them bad on purpose, I would have hidden these parts, but I think that scene created a character."
Among the scenes with 'memes', I think that scene is a representative scene that explains them. It is a scene that can explain and immerse the situation well. So when editing, the representative scene was a scene that could explain the story and the situation well, so I think it kept coming out."
