ITZY's 'CHECKMATE' Becomes 4th Girl Group Album to Reach THIS Number of Pre-Orders

ITZY's "CHECKMATE" has achieved an impressive number of pre-orders. Only three K-pop girl group albums have achieved in the past years. Keep reading to know how many pre-orders the mini-album has recorded so far.

'CHECKMATE' Makes ITZY 4th K-pop Girl Group to Reach THIS Number of Pre-Orders

On July 15, JYP Entertainment announced the number of pre-orders for ITZY's "CHECKMATE" through press releases, along with an interview with the girl group. The company announced that "CHECKMATE" had reached a total of 720,665 pre-orders as of the afternoon of the 14th.

This figure marks ITZY's highest number of stock pre-orders in their career. Moreover, "CHECKMATE" is now the fourth K-pop girl group album to reach 700,000 stock pre-orders.

The first three girl group albums to attain the milestone are aespa's "Girls," BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM," and TWICE's "Formula of Love: O+T=<3."

With over 720,000 pre-orders, ITZY's "CHECKMATE" has also now surpassed TWICE's "Formula of Love" (with 700,000 pre-orders). It is not only as the third-most pre-ordered album released by JYP Entertainment but also the third-most pre-ordered K-pop girl group album in history.

Stray Kids' "ODDINARY" and "NOEASY" are the most and second-most pre-ordered JYPE album, while aespa's "Girls" and BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM" have the highest and second-highest number of stock pre-orders among K-pop girl group albums.

With the number of pre-orders for "CHECKMATE," ITZY would surpass 2.3 million copies on Circle Chart (formerly known as Gaon Chart).

Meanwhile, ITZY's "CHECKMATE" will drop later today at 1 p.m. KST, along with the music video for the title song "SNEAKERS."

In the interview that came along with the announcement of the number of stock pre-orders for ITZY's "CHECKMATE," the girl group talked about the album's title song "SNEAKERS." In particular, they spoke about the main point to pay attention to in the track's music video.

When asked to introduce "SNEAKERS," Yeji said, "The new song 'SNEAKERS' contains the message 'Let's run further together freely and without hesitation by following our hearts.' We compared it to our favorite sneakers that make us feel good, so I hope those who will listen to the song will find their own 'SNEAKERS' that will make them feel free."

Yuna added, "When I first heard this song, I got the feeling, 'ITZY's summer is here!' The beat and melody are very exciting and lively, which made him excited as well."

About the major point to watch in ITZY's "SNEAKERS" MV, Ryujin shared, "The point to watch is the transition of eras, from the Middle Ages, the modern era, the present, and the future. You might also want to pay attention to the members' gorgeous visuals as well as our energetic choreography."

Lia stated, "The music video depicts the story of spreading 'SNEAKERS' through each era. Among them, the visuals and group performances that show the passage of time are worth noting." She continued, "It was really fun to see the styling and atmosphere of the members as they change over time at the music video filming site."

As the interview went on, ITZY Chaeryeong revealed the main points in the "SNEAKERS" choreography. She said that they prepared another crown pose at the end and that there are movements that will make people feel like they are wearing shoes.
