There’s no better way to close off June than with seven talented girls and the performance of a lifetime — and on June 28, the first stop of Dreamcatcher’s 2022 World Tour [Apocalypse : Save us] in AMERICA gave us everything we needed, wanted, dreamed of, and more.
The concert took place at the Palladium in Times Square, right in the heart of New York City! On their second U.S. tour, members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami, and Gahyeon were no strangers to the excitement that seeing their American fans brings. The group’s unique rock and metal sound attracts a wide diversity of fans: from an older metal-loving crowd to J-rock fans to K-pop fanatics, all had their Dreamcatcher lightsticks in hand, ready to fall under Dreamcatcher’s spell.
Here are our top ten magical moments from Dreamcatcher’s 2022 [Apocalypse : Save us] Tour in New York show!
One: The Start of It All (And the first moment we can’t get out of our minds!)
As the first song of the first stop of their whole tour, the girls made sure to make it memorable: we can’t get the tenderness of “Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” out of our minds. During the song (amidst their stunning vocals), members waved out into the crowd and really took in the sight of all of their InSomnias gathered together, overwhelmed by all the love in one place. JiU even shed some tears.
Even through the huge wave of emotions, they didn’t miss the chance to jump and dance around with their fans! Gahyeon’s cute dance moves were punctuated by her sending kisses and hearts out to the crowd — it was a moment full off love, the perfect way to greet their New York fans for the very first time.
Two: The Perfect Black & White Outfits for “Black or White”
Dreamcatcher proved that they’re equal parts love for their InSomnia and impeccable performance skills - “Black or White” featured charisma, energy, and flawless formations, worthy of Dreamcatcher’s iconic dance stages!
The crowd went wild for Dami’s rap and somehow got even wilder for Siyeon’s high note at the bridge. You could tell that each InSomnia had been waiting for the song with the way they shouted each word alongside the girls — they were in perfect unison.
Their black and white outfits were even more perfect for their song: each girl sported a different black or white top, with matching gray pants!
Three: Self-introductions filled with cuteness & love for InSomnia!
The group’s unforgettable “Dream of Me!” greeting was enough to have fans going crazy at their synchronized kiss, and it only got cuter with each of the girl’s self-introduction! The members showed off their cuteness and sexiness by introducing themselves with nicknames, and each InSomnia met them with enthusiasm in the form of screams.
And the girls of Dreamcatcher were just as excited! They asked for food recommendations for New York, with many suggesting New York’s iconic pizza.
However, Dreamcatcher was hungriest for the love of their InSomnia — they even requested love in the form of cheers and pantomimed, eating it all deliciously.
Four: Even the venue’s under their spell for Red Sun & BEcause!
The next song, “Red Sun,” blossomed with Yoohyeon’s vocals, with Dami’s deep honey voice sending the crowd into screams once again! With a snap of their fingers, the girls controlled even the venue’s lights to bend to their will, creating a captivating dream under their spell. Such a spell probably caused InSomnia to lose their minds since they all barked in response to the seamless formation transitions that brought the song to a satisfying end. Woof!
Dreamcatcher brought out their iconic driving rock beat during “BECause,” bathing the venue in a striking blue light! Each InSomnia yelled along, especially to the booming “Because I love you!” chorus.
Five: There’s no better place for InSomnia than the city that never sleeps: New York City!
What’s dreamier than having a sold-out show in the middle of New York City? If you answered with “Dreamcatcher’s vocals,” then you’re probably on the right track — plus, at Dreamcatcher’s New York stop, we were treated with both! Yoohyeon celebrated by singing the iconic New York anthem “Empire State of Mind,” with InSomnia serenading the girls with the rest of the chorus. It was worthy of celebration since it was their first time performing in New York City! (Their previous tour in 2019 had their NYC Metropolitan stop in Jersey City.)
The members even shared videos of their tour ad in Times Square! SuA, in awe, shared that she believes that they could only be there because of InSomnia.
Out of love, Dreamcatcher then dedicated their next song to InSomnia!
And what InSomnia wouldn’t get emotional at “Always” being dedicated just to them? Each member’s voice was dripping with love for their fans, and each fan met Dreamcatcher in turn by waving along their lightsticks. JiU cutely hugged herself in response to the love, pointing her mic to the fans to sing with them.
Six: “Jazz Bar” - the best place for jazz and fruity drinks!
Throughout “Jazz Bar,” the groovy jazzy beat was full of interactions between Dreamcatcher, InSomnia, and each other - one moment between Yoohyeon and SuA caught screams for a sensual dance! Each member showed off their style, charisma, and sweetness, and between JiU and Siyeon’s sensual face caress and each moment in-between, there was simply so much going on. (All of them were amazing.) So what better way is there to end the month of June than with Dreamcatcher?
Seven: A “Wake Up” Call for InSomnia to sing along with their faves!
Before they moved to the next song, Dreamcatcher practiced a “Wake up, wake up!” fancall with InSomnia, prompting each fan to yell their hearts outs when they passed the mic. The strength of it had each member in awe - with one lucky InSomnia getting to show off their “Wake up, wake up” to SuA!
Each InSomnia went wild with excitement and hype to “Wake Up,” with Dreamcatcher performing songs with their iconic rock sound: “Wake Up” and “Tension!”
Eight: Dreamcatcher’s Solo Song Talk - and an overload of charms from each member!
As the [Apocalypse : Save us] Tour, the tour celebrated its eponymous album, [Apocalypse : Save us]! The EP featured a solo song from each member — and Dreamcatcher took us through each song with a snippet of a performance!
JiU performed a bit of her solo song “Cherry (Real Miracle),” celebrating the funky pop beat with its dance, floating around all points of the stage and showing off her endless charms!
In a switch of energy, “No Dot” by SuA featured her sexiness. For the song, she wanted to show off her “clinginess,” — but instead, her charismatic dance filled the stage with energetic beats, making all of InSomnia’s eyes cling to her instead! Other members even joined her in the song’s dance, all flipping their hair in sync.
“Are you ready to be entranced?” Siyeon asked InSomnia as she introduced her solo song “Entrancing.” And InSomnia was truly unprepared for how she flawlessly danced and sang! She shared how she wanted to inspire a more traditional Asian sound and how the track came out how she wanted it to — much to all of our benefits.
“Winter” by Handong featured the melancholy tones of winter and the most delicate hand movements, which the members lovingly danced along to! Handong’s joy was also apparent as she shared little details of the song’s performance. As she recorded the song, the director turned off all the lights so she could embrace the song's feeling, immersed in the sadness - even she started to feel sad when recording.
Yoohyeon shared a bit of the meaning behind the title of her song, “For.” “For” has a blank after it for InSomnia to put their names — and the jazzy song was full of love and desire to stay by their side! Yoohyeon pulled up Siyeon to dance and serenade her, dedicating the wish to embrace her forever to her (and InSomnia, of course!)
Dami’s hype-filled “Beauty Full” is a tale of self-confidence and self-love for her and her InSomnia — and had the silliest recording story behind it! She recorded it late at night in the dorms, so she used a cushion so the members wouldn’t hear her sing. Now, the song resounded through the halls of the Palladium, with each InSomnia chanting “Go, go, go!” alongside Dami!
For the solo song of beloved maknae Gahyeon, “Playground” uniquely featured a prop that would often fall out of her back pocket. So, they made a back pocket, especially for the prop! The cutesy dance perfectly matched the energy of the group's maknae, each clap punctuated by a heart she threw her InSomnia’s way!
Nine: Dreamcatcher’s iconic rock sound & impeccable choreography all on display!
Dreamcatcher continued the show with a trio of fan-favorites: “Break The Wall,” “MAISON,” and “Odd Eye,” each showcasing Dreamcatcher’s quintessential metall energy. “Break the Wall” perfectly balanced hype and haunting melodies — and, of course, the screams that erupted during Dami’s rap likely broke some world records.
“MAISON'' was cause for celebration as the song that garnered Dreamcatcher their first win! The high-energy chorus, complete with a driving beat and an unforgettable bassline, was not a moment to miss — and neither was the high kick dance move of “Odd Eye”’s bridge, capping off their synchronized choreography with a bang!
Ten: The culmination of Dreamcatcher’s love for InSomnia: reuniting, returning, and remembering!
The day’s show marked the beginning of Dreamcatcher’s US tour – and they were so happy to kick off their tour in New York after missing their InSomnia for two years! Each moment was full of utmost love, from performances to silly ments to the small gazes and hearts exchanged between Dreamcatcher and InSomnia.
The sweet melodies of “4 Melody” were the perfect anthem to begin wrapping up the concert in the same way it started: full of love, play, and dancing around! Yoohyeon even picked up not one but two pride flags, showing off her love for InSomnia (during Pride Month, no less!)
Dreamcatcher's love for their fans was even present in how they gave them water, caring for those caught up in the heat of the night. "Together" was the perfect song to celebrate this unconditional love: Dreamcatcher and InSomnia would always be together! With one more song and their final bow, they said their goodbyes to their InSomnia — but not for long!
The girls quickly returned for their final encore song of “New Days,” sharing even more excitement and hype with their fans! Credits rolled as they waved goodbye to their InSomnia, thanking everyone who had a hand in finally bringing them back together. Their final “We love you, forever!” had us finally captured in Dreamcatcher’s spell — cursed to stay with Dreamcatcher, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Don’t miss your chance to fall under Dreamcatcher’s spell: the tour will continue with two dates (July 16 & July 17) in Los Angeles, with the final stop streamed online for their global fans!
Thank you so much to Dreamcatcher and MyMusicTaste for granting KpopStarz press access to the show, and we can’t wait for the next!
