'Raper': BTS J-Hope Fan-Sponsored Advertisement Draws Attention for Disastrous Billboard

Uh-oh! A fan-sponsored advertisement for BTS J-Hope in the middle of the city is drawing attention for its "disastrous" billboard, sparking questions online. Keep on reading to know more.

BTS J-Hope Accidentally Labeled 'Raper' in Fan-Sponsored Advertisement

In the K-pop industry, it is quite common for fans to hire buses and trucks, rent cafes, and put up billboards to advertise their favorite K-pop stars. These are usually organized by fanbases and sponsored whenever an idol celebrates their birthday or commemorates a special event. This doesn't take place only in South Korea but worldwide.

So it's not a surprise that a billboard for BTS member J-Hope was put up. However, the fan-sponsored billboard for the idol is drawing attention for a certain word featured on it.

Recently on July 15, an electronic billboard was put up at the COEX building located in Samseong-dong, Seoul, to promote J-Hope's first studio album, "Jack In The Box," which was released on the same day.

The advertisement was reportedly sponsored by a Chinese fanbase and was intended to introduce J-Hope and his new album. However, a misspelling was made that resulted in the billboard becoming disastrous due to the word's meaning.

In the part that introduces J-Hope as a rapper, the word was misspelled and caused it to appear as "raper" instead. Instead of J-Hope being rapper, it suddenly implied that he was a sex offender due to the missing letter in the spelling.

After the billboard was put up, the advertisement was reportedly live for a couple of days until fans noticed the spelling error and reported it to COEX. As of July 19, KST, the electronic billboard was taken down.

Netizens who saw the spelling error couldn't help but wonder if the fanbase was an anti, as an advertisement as big as this would need to be double-checked before being displayed. However, others say that the advertising company could have made a mistake.

Meanwhile, J-Hope dropped his "Jack In The Box" album back on July 15, which features a total of 10 tracks including his pre-release single "MORE." Prior to the album's release, J-Hope hosted a pre-release listening party, which was attended by numerous Korean actors and actresses, singers, rappers, influencers, and more.
