PSY's 'Summer Swag 2022' Warned by CDC Over Virus Transmission Concerns
In the past few months, South Korea is again seeing a rise in positive COVID-19 cases, with the daily count reaching more than 100,000 people. Despite the surge, PSY continues to hold his "Summer Swag 2022" concerts. Now, the event is seemingly posing a threat to public health.
As of now, PSY is currently visiting different cities across South Korea for his Summer Swag concerts, which is a splash show event. The concept of these concerts is to splash the audience with water as PSY performs on stage. The "That That" singer has been doing this type of summer concert for years but halted it due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2019.
This year marks the first time he resumes his special summer concerts in three years as COVID-19 is finally easing. Yet, many netizens have raised their concerns over several aspects of the splash show.
Their first concern was that the Summer Swag concerts use more than 300 tons of drinkable water per show amid several regions in South Korea facing severe drought this year. This led to netizens criticizing his decision to use water. Many even called for him to either not use water or reduce the amount.
Second, the risk of transmitting viruses at this kind of event is very high, as wet masks increase the risk of transmitting COVID-19. In fact, the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDC) even warned PSY of the health threats his summer concerts could pose in June.

Yet, PSY's concert organizers assured the public that they had taken all necessary precautions to guarantee the attendees' safety. Aside from disinfecting the venues where the concerts will be held, they also provided waterproof masks and three KF94 masks for each attendee.
Despite these efforts, more people are coming forward to complain about having tested positive for COVID-19 after attending one of PSY's Summer Swag shows.

So far, PSY has held three shows in Seoul from July 15 to July 17 and has amassed more than 100,000 people in attendance. While the concert's staff provided the attendees with masks and PSY's continuous warning for the attendees to keep their masks on, such was not able to help prevent the spreading of the virus.
But many attendees also took off their masks to take photos at the concerts. Because of this, netizens also criticize the attendees as they know the risk of going to the concert. Many believe they should be held accountable for their actions.
With the growing number of COVID-19 positive cases among attendees, the CDC has decided to look into the matter and launch an investigation. Likewise, they once again urged people to follow COVID-19 regulations for outdoor activities.
