HYBE and ADOR's new girl group NewJeans has become a hot topic in the past week following their unofficial debut, and they have been rising in popularity since then. Now, reports say that HYBE and ADOR had invested this staggering amount just to launch the rookie girl group. Keep on reading to know more.
HYBE and ADOR Reportedly Spent Staggering Amount for NewJeans' Debut
ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, recently launched their new girl group called NewJeans. As part of their debut, ADOR created a new mobile application exclusively for NewJeans in partnership with Weverse Company.
According to reports, HYBE and ADOR is said to have invested more than ₩16 billion KRW (around $12.2 million USD) for the rookie girl group. With Weverse Company, they developed the app called "Phoning" as a means for them to communicate with fans with "one phone."
Initially, HYBE had only put in an investment of ₩100 million KRW (around $76,700 USD) for ADOR. But it rose to ₩10 billion KRW (around $7.6 million USD) and eventually gained another ₩6 billion KRW (around $4.6 million USD).
While HYBE Labels artists are using the global fan community platform Weverse to communicate with their respective fandoms, NewJeans will be the only artist under HYBE who won't use the platform. In fact, even artists from other labels, such as YG Entertainment, and international artists such as Jeremy Zucker and Gracie Abrams are using Weverse.
However, NewJeans' official albums and merchandise will still be distributed through Weverse Shop.

This is the first time that HYBE and Weverse Company are dedicating a separate mobile app for a single group. In fact, following NewJeans' "Phoning," Weverse Company stated that they have no plans of developing a similar app for other artists other than for the "Attention" singers as of now.
More About NewJeans' 'Phoning' App
"Phoning" has numerous app features, which include real-time live broadcasting in the form of a video call, message, photo, and video-sharing through chat functions, calendars, and more. The app aims to create a feeling of direct communication between the members of NewJeans and their fans.
Regarding the app, an official from HYBE said, "'Phoning' is the result of the collaboration between Weverse [Company] and ADOR, which has long considered the different means to provide new values to fans."

Meanwhile, NewJeans is HYBE and ADOR's five-member girl group. They will officially make their debut on August 1, KST. However, they also dropped their pre-release singles "Attention," "Hype Boy," and "Hurt" recently on July 22, July 23, and July 25, respectively.
On August 1, they will digitally release their self-titled mini album, containing their other lead single, "Cookie."
