SHINee Jonghyun's Past Remark Resurfaces
On August 1, a post on the online community theqoo became a hot topic. It was a social media comment by the late SHINee member Jonghyun.
In the post, a screenshot of of his tweet said:
"Jonghyun, seven years have passed but the world is still exactly the same."
In context, the male idol's post conveyed his honest thoughts about how "terrifying" it would be to bring a child in this world and expressed concerns, such as:
"Lowering the age of entry for the elementary, middle and high school system to induce childbirth... government-produced textbook...
Under these policies, it only brought me the lack of confidence in giving birth to children and helping their mind and body grow into healthy human beings."
He added:
"I'm not trying to say that I'm not going to have a baby, but it's terrifying to have children."
As soon as the post resurfaced, online users and Shawols (SHINee fandom) expressed their mixed reactions.
The reason some fans felt sorry for Jonghyun was due to the fact that even after seven years had passed, the system he pointed out in his comment hadn't changed at all.

- "I'm sorry that it didn't change at all."
- "Sorry for failing to protect you against this society."
People also expressed sadness and longing for the late poet|artist and left comments under the tweet:
- "I miss you, you really did well."
- "It still feels surreal that you're not here, I want to see you. How are you?"
- "I'm hoping that you are comfortable wherever you are."
SHINee Jonghyun Draws Admiration for Past Remark
On top of these comments, people can't help but admire Jonghyun for speaking up on the pressure of South Korean educational system, and empathized with his comments, saying:
"He was always a straightforward and courageous person. I miss you, Jonghyun."
"Now this country is going further back than then. It's more regressive, ruined and rotten than before. It would be better if nothing has changed. I miss you Kim Jonghyun."
"Even after time, the world has not changed. Just because you're a known person, you didn't hesitate to say the right things to the world. That's one of the tens of thousands of reasons why I love you. I miss you, Jonghyun."
"(Jonghyun) is a person who had no fear of expressing his thoughts, (a person) who couldn't help but love."
More comments recalling how Jonghyun became one of the first idols who spoke out on social issues and that his words and dreams in the physical world remain.
Jonghyun made his name known as the main vocalist of SHINee, which debuted in 2008 under SM Entertainment.
He also established his career as a soloist, DJ, author, composer, songwriter, and more.
He left the world on December 18, 2017 at the age of 27.
